Position Summary Thousands of Minnesota kids need help getting ready for Kindergarten and you can make all the difference. Offer your time and talent as a tutor and be more for preschool students. As a Preschool Tutor you'll spend your days helping children ages 3-5 to talk, read, write, sing and play in order to develop early literacy and math skills and get ready for Kindergarten. Embedded in a classroom, you'll work closely with a teacher to enhance daily activities and help students build both skills and confidence. With great training and onsite coaching, you'll be ready to make an impact. Students make the most progress when you are there, so our tutors serve during school hours and are needed for the whole school year. We are currently recruiting for the 2021-22 school year. Tutors have the option of beginning in October 2021 or January 2022. This is an AmeriCorps member position with Minnesota Reading Corps. Although the earnings are modest, the rewards are great! You'll join an amazing group of more than 1,500 tutors, determined to help students be more. What to Expect Be a change maker by implementing proven literacy and math strategies in your classroom. Be committed to helping students build their skills and confidence. Be ready to grow by participating in coaching sessions two times per month to review child progress, plan, problem solve, and set goals. Be impactful by participating in training and ongoing professional development throughout your term of service. Be the motivation and represent Reading Corps at school-sponsored activities to help build awareness of Reading Corps and early literacy. Be an ambassador of the program by sharing your experience with the wider community. Perks Package Give your time as a tutor and you'll receive a scalable perks package based on your time commitment of 35, 25, or 18 hours per week. Perks at 35 hours a week: A stipend of $900 paid every 2 weeks $15,300 total for 900 hours of service starting in October 2021 $9,900 total for 675 hours of service starting in January 2022 Up to $3,172 for tuition or student loans* Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment Individual health insurance - Monthly premium 100% covered Child care assistance - Based on family size and income Perks at 25 hours a week: A stipend of $650 paid every 2 weeks $11,050 total for 675 hours of service starting in October 2021 $7,150 total for 450 hours of service starting in January 2022 Up to $2,417 for tuition or student loans* Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment Perks at 18 hours a week: A stipend of $450 paid every 2 weeks $7,650 total for 450 hours of service starting in October 2021 $4,950 total for 300 hours of service starting in January 2022 Up to $1,678 for tuition or student loans* Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment *The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award can be used to pay tuition or repay qualified student loans. Individuals 55+ may gift their award to their child, grandchild, foster child or step-child. What it Takes To participate in Educator Corps, you need to be a classroom teacher, paraprofessional or aide working with students ages 3-5. In addition, you'll need to meet the following minimum qualifications by the time you begin your service: Receive a recommendation from your principal, school administrator or internal coach Have basic computer skills (like email and navigating online) Can speak, read and write English fluently 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States* Agree to and successfully complete a background check *Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve as AmeriCorps members at this time.
