PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Evaluates coding from medical records to ensure accurate coding of data and recommends processes to ensure accurate and efficient coding practices. Assists in providing feedback regarding coding and reimbursement. Participates in operational activities. Works with managers, medical directors, market leaders, stakeholders, and other employees to ensure improvement in coding accuracy. Performs coding querying, adds missed codes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE
  • Identify, review, interpret, code and abstract clinical information and assign correct ICD-10 codes.
  • Identify viable primary diagnosis and procedure as well as pertinent secondary diagnosis and procedures.
  • Review, interpret and recommend Plan of Care corrections as needed.
  • Discuss project related discrepancies with Team Lead(s).

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in abstracting and coding medical records by applying ICD-9 Coding Guidelines.
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification from AHIMA preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge in anatomy and physiology, pathology of disease and medical terminology required.

BENEFIT INFORMATION
  • Pay Range: $25-45 per hour
    • Compensation is commensurate with employee qualifications, experience, and other factors including geographic location, market and operational factors.
