Assist in the coordination of counseling services consisting of student testing, assessments, interventions, referrals, and counseling; assist administration, faculty and parents with consultation and education.

Hiring for a Full Time High School Counselor and a Long Term sub for High School Counselor

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote the mission of Bishop O ??? Gorman Catholic Schools
  • Instruct classroom guidance units for students
  • Registration for new and current student
  • Assist with standardized testing materials for the ACT, AP, Pre-ACT and PSAT testing
  • Attend IEP meetings as coordinated by Academic Services
  • Monitor student transcripts for progress toward graduation
  • Inform teachers and staff of new materials and services that become available
  • Provide short term individual counseling and make referrals as needed
  • Consult with parents and teachers about student concerns and progress
  • Provide small group counseling for peer concerns as needed
  • Establish and maintain relationships with appropriate counseling agencies and professionals
  • Work with clergy, teachers, parents, and administration to meet the personal needs of students
  • Be mindful of the Bishop O ??? Gorman Catholic Schools' mission when working with students on an individual, group or classroom basis
  • Comply with federal/state legislation on racism, sexism, disadvantaged, handicapped, etc.
  • Attend workshops, training/conferences as applicable
  • Attend service club meetings with students
  • Follow code of ethics
  • Maintain membership in professional organization
  • Student Assistant Team member- attends meetings and follows up on referrals
  • Co-coordinate student groups, such as SADD/TATU
  • Perform various duties as may be assigned by administration

International Students Program:

  • Responsible for all international students
  • Responsible for recruitment of students into the homestay
  • Responsible to review and manage student inquiries & applications to determine enrollment eligibility (may work with admissions coordinator)
  • Maintains agency relationships and contacts
  • Complies with federal and state regulations regarding international student eligibility including South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA)
  • Continually evaluate the effectiveness of recruitment tactics and benefits of organizational relationships
  • Provides academic support for international students by working with counselor(s) to enroll students in appropriate courses, to assist in transition into school and interpret international student transcripts to determine eligibility for graduation and post-secondary plans
  • Communicates with host families of homestay students as well as coordinators, building principals, and teachers regarding student progress
  • Creates and maintain database of international student alumni who have attended O'Gorman High School
  • Evaluates professional organizations that provide resources for the international program

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • South Dakota school counselor certification
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organization skills
