Assistant Professor - Academic Hospitalist

The Department of Medicine at the University of Minnesota is seeking Board Certified/Board Eligible General Internists for our Hospital Medicine Program. These positions will be academic track or master clinician track appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor.

About the Appointment:

The clinical duties will involve providing patient care both directly and during supervision of trainees at the University of Minnesota Medical Center. These duties will include evening, overnight and weekend responsibilities. There are also the following opportunities within our Hospital Medicine Program for those looking for a more focused practice:

* Consult and Procedure Service (CAPS)
* Pulmonary Focused Service in Collaboration with Pulmonary Team
* Hematology-Oncology Focused Service in Collaboration with Hematology-Oncology Team
* Hematology-Oncology Swing Service
* Nocturnist coverage
* Med-Peds Service at M Health Fairview Ridges and Maple Grove Hospital
* Specific shifts:
* 8a - 6p
* Swing 3p - 12p
* Night 10p - 9a (occasional shifts)
* Triage Only Day 8a - 4p,
* Triage only Evening 4p - 12a,
* Community Med-Peds 7a - 5p
* Number of admits in a shift range from 4-15
* Patient census 12-14 per shift

In addition, there are opportunities to participate in quality improvement, interdisciplinary collaboration, teaching of medical students and residents, global medicine, health equity and other scholarly activities.

The candidate will have a commitment to clinical/QI/educational scholarship; advancement within the institution will depend on demonstration of clinical and scholarly achievement. The division has a mentoring program for all assistant professors to support them in their clinical, educational and scholarship pursuits.

* The Division of General Internal Medicine has developed an outstanding cohort of clinicians, teachers, and young educational leaders. The division is united in the mission of patient care and has enthusiastically accepted and embraced teaching and educational leadership roles. The majority of faculty members are clinical scholars whose academic activities involve scholarship related to clinical and educational activities.

Qualifications:

* Graduate of an accredited ACGME Internal Medicine or Internal Medicine/Pediatrics residency training program
* Board Certified/Board Prepared with the American Board of Medical Specialties or American Osteopathic Association
* Licensed or ability to obtain Minnesota Board of Medical Practice Licensure
* Ability to obtain and /or maintain DEA certification for the State of Minnesota
* Meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges
* Demonstrated excellence in patient care and communication
* Demonstrated excellence in interdisciplinary collaboration
* Demonstrated enthusiasm for medical education and strong teaching skills
* Ability to receive work authorization in the United States from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and maintain legal status according to the requirements of VISA category while in the United States

Preferred Qualifications:

* Advanced training in General Internal Medicine or practice experience is highly desirable
