Job Summary

This position will ultimately reside at th Ave, Beresford, South Dakota 57004. There will be extensive cross training with the Wisconsin dairy projects through year end with flexibility regarding the engineer's home office during this training preference for the following locations:

  • Lincoln, WI (between Green Bay and Sturgeon Bay)

  • Newton, WI (outside of Manitowoc)

  • Rosendale, WI (near Fond du Lac)

  • New Chester, WI (Grand Marsh, WI)


Key Accountabilities

This position offers the opportunity to work with a small group of individuals in a rapidly growing renewable fuels industry. The individual is responsible for ensuring that instrumentation and controls are functioning per design, accurate, and precise while maximizing safety and production at multiple dairies where anaerobic digester gas is processed and turned into renewable natural gas. The individual will work collaboratively with other members of the operations team to quickly diagnose electrical and controls problems and continuously improve the performance of the plant. The I&C engineer will be responsible for executing maintenance on compressors, conduct electrical troubleshooting, create operational reports, and safely operating a complex renewable natural gas processing plant while maximizing profitability. Attention to detail, especially with the correct metering of renewable gas, will be critical to success. This position will report to the Regional Operations Manager. While work hours are primarily during normal daylight hours, callouts and flexibility of work hours will be necessary.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of five years of industrial experience with associate degree while demonstrating continuous skill advancement or a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering with controls experience. Competencies include but not limited to:


  • Problem solving with root cause analysis expertise and capability

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skill

  • Interface effectively with a variety of people, such as engineers, plant personnel, supervision, management, contractors, service groups, and vendors


Other Qualifications

Solid background in instrumentation and controls - flow meters, control valves, PLC Programming, calibration, VFD, 4-20 mA signals. Strong industrial skill set - including electrical troubleshooting, PLC knowledge, gas compressor maintenance and operations, flow meter operations, valves, gas chromatographs, etc. Strong administrative skills - basic computer skills, assisting in purchasing correct equipment, and operator logs to support inventory management, maintenance planning. Safety Background/Understanding - Understanding of OSHA requirements and ability to learn detailed requirements for operating environment, developing a good safety culture, and implementing safety improvements. Excellent interpersonal skills - maintaining positive relationships and communication coworkers and leaders will be essential to success. Individuals with previous knowledge and experience with anaerobic digesters and associated processes will be given top consideration. Candidate is required to have a valid driver's license.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, and extreme cold and/or heat. The employee is regularly exposed to electric devices, moving mechanical parts and/or machinery. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high. Employee will routinely operate a motor vehicle. Employee will be required to respond to plant upset conditions (callouts) outside of normal business hours, work unscheduled overtime and may occasionally be required to travel to other work locations using personal transportation (travel expense reimbursed within policy limits). Employee will also be responsible for operating and maintaining a DOT regulated pipeline as needed.
