Overview:
M-Health Fairview is a collaboration between University of Minnesota Academic Health Center, University of Minnesota Physicians (UMP), and Fairview Health System to become a top ranked academic health system. The heart and vascular service line structure aligns the academic and community physician practice to health system strategy. The UMP practice includes 75+ heart and vascular physicians. The physicians are general and sub-specialty cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, vascular medicine and vascular surgeons. Health system capabilities include multiple ambulatory clinics and outpatient service sites spread across the 12 county Minneapolis - St. Paul metro; inpatient services at University of Minnesota Medical Center (UMMC), M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital, M Health Fairview Ridges Hospital, and M Health Fairview St. John's Hospital.

In collaboration with the service line physician chief, the heart and vascular service line executive is a senior level executive that facilitates, directs, and coordinates strategic and operational planning to drive market differentiation leveraging the innovation of the academic milieu, creation of tactical plans and programs relative to the delivery of high quality clinical services and program growth throughout the health system. Works with other service line and health system leaders to assure alignment of local and regional strategies and operational decisions to the organization's overall mission, vision and goals.

Provides oversight for ambulatory clinic operations, and cardiac invasive and non-invasive services at four sites. Services span the continuum from community care to quaternary care provided at UMMC which includes ventricular assist device program and heart and lung transplants.

The Service Line Executive will implement and sustain the M Health Fairview Operating Management System using lean methodology and philosophy to shape optimal care model planning and implementation, patient experience, employee engagement, quality and safety, and cost management and efficiency initiatives throughout areas of responsibility. The service line executive will also develop a culture that drives quality and safety as the first priority and shares responsibility for compliance with regulatory bodies.

Based in the Twin Cities Metro area, this position will require residency within proximity of the workplace. As this position offers some ability to telecommute, it is the expectation the following requirements of the remote work policy will be met, including but not limited to:

Remote workspace that is clean, safe, and professional.

Maintains an internet connection consistent with Fairview standards at remote workspace.

Remain productive and responsive during their scheduled work hours.

Attend primary Fairview location, as needed.

Provides strategic leadership in the development and implementation of ongoing programs to achieve top-level clinical performance, deliver a consistently excellent customer experience, achieve program growth, and support research and teaching activities.

Assures inclusion of ideas and strong execution of strategies and coordinates existing resources to move initiatives forward.

Works closely with other service line, shared clinical services, and acute care leaders to ensure strategies and plans align with care system imperatives, such as: meeting discharge by 11 targets; 24/7 availability of specialty resources to facilitate hospital throughput, ED avoidance, prevention of re-admissions; and meeting length of stay targets.

Creates a culture that is decisive, action-oriented, flexible, and poised to seize opportunities to advance quality, service, innovation and overall performance.

Promotes open, effective, and ongoing communication and the sharing of information among and between medical staff, employees and leadership at M Health Fairview and the Academic Health Center, and UMPhysicians related to service line & clinical program performance.

Growth

In partnership with the Service Line Chief:

Provide strategic leadership in bringing together diverse constituencies for the purposes of conceptualizing, articulating, and implementing a shared vision for the Service Line throughout the M Health Fairview System and University of Minnesota Academic Health Center. Provide leadership and guidance in shepherding the organization through inevitable change that integrates different points of view and builds ownership.

Provide leadership in building a service line team that will assume responsibility and accountability for achieving the overall program vision, financial/operational objectives, and growth objectives. Establishes clearly defined goals and objectives and ensures follow through in a timely manner.

Ensures professional services objectives - clinical quality, service, and productivity - are met throughout the service line, and across all care settings. Make sound decisions on best use of resources in support of regional priorities and strategies.

Ensures that a recruitment plan is developed and executed to ensure program performance and growth.

Responsible for the development of strategic and capital plans to advance the program and meet performance objectives.

Assure a collaborative relationship with all referring providers; establish methods for timely referrals and communication.

Responsible for the development and execution of a marketing and branding strategy for the Service Line.

Provides input into the payor contracting strategy; engages with payors to review outcomes and communicate key care model changes, improvements and innovations, as well as developing positive relationships outside of the contracting cycle.

Provide a clear presence in the community for the purpose of building positive relationships and educating Minnesotans about the high quality and comprehensive approach to the provision of cardiovascular services at M Heath Fairview and the University of Minnesota.

Build physician relationships across the system and foster partnering across regions and between community and academic physicians.

Accountable for physician contracts:

Assume day to day responsibility for overseeing the operation of physician arrangements

Is point person for service line to ensure policy and procedures for physician contracts are followed. Supports service line in proper procedures for physician contract requests and oversight.

Approves invoices related to physician contract payments, ensuring that payments reflect services received and are accurate.

In partnership with contract specialists, performs review of contract terms within policy guidelines (e.g.: Fair Market Value review no less than every 2 years).

Actively work with accountable leader and legal department in coordinating physician contract investigations

Qualifications:
Required

Education

Master's degree in Hospital Administration, MBA, or other applicable related Masters degrees

Experience

10 years of progressive managerial experience inclusive of development and implementation of strategic operating plans. Experience developing planning documents in support of organizational growth, major systems, subsidiaries, or operating units.
