Department Details

This position is responsible for conducting Verification Visits as a CDA Professional Development Specialist. The schedule is flexible to meet the needs of the child care provider.

Job Summary

The Family Life Educator provides education and support to adults that affect the lives of children within a designated age group primarily to parents and childcare providers funded through childcare services. The Family Life Educator establishes and maintains effective interpersonal relationships with job related contacts. The Family Life Educator assists in the coordination and implementation of grant projects, service agreements, and contracts to help assure success in the community and at the medical centers.

The Family Life Educator conducts presentations, and educational consultations. Coordinates specific course logistics and objectives pertinent to subject matter. Responsible to maintain consistent and quality improvement processes centered around state regulation requirements. The educator is specialized in their designated topic and age group and all aspects around child development and safety.

The Family Life Educator has knowledge of and use of appropriate age-related protocols relating to developmental, health and safety needs of children. Must be able to work with growing needs of unique populations served. Must possess observations skills to properly assess family and individual needs. Provides monitoring capability to ensure compliance within each assigned program in order to accurately report up to federal government for quality enhancements, data collection and reporting and maintaining compliance.

Work hours vary according to department and client needs. Some evenings and/or weekend work hours required.

Qualifications

Education:

Must hold a Baccalaureate or Associate degree from accredited college or university in one of the following disciplines:
  • Early Childhood Education/Child Development
  • Elementary Education/Early Childhood Education
  • Home Economics/ Child Development

The degree must include, at minimum, 18 semester or 24 quarter hours of coursework in Early Childhood Education/Child Development, focused on children birth through 5 years.

Experience:

Option 1:

For those with a Baccalaureate degree or higher, two years in a child care setting serving children from birth to 5 hears of age to include:
  • one year working directly with children as a caregiver, teacher, child life worker, social worker, or similar role and one year facilitating the professional growth of at least one other adult.

Option 2:

For those with an Associate degree, four years in a child care setting serving children from birth to 5 years of age, to include:
  • Two years working directly with children as a caregiver, teacher, child life worker, social worker, or similar role and two years facilitating the professional growth of at least one other adult.

Bachelor s degree required. Field of study preference in early childhood education, child development, family relations. preferred. In lieu of degree, leadership may consider six years equivalent work experience.

One year of experience collaborating with adults on the development, health and safety needs of children.

May require certification/licensure as required by profession and program specification. Dependent on needs of department, may require a valid driver s license. Must maintain a good driving record.
