The Senior Director of Internal Communications leverages communications expertise, business acumen and interpersonal skills to design and deliver internal communication programs that are integrated with the business strategies and objectives for UnitedHealthcare Government Programs. This position will also lead key projects to advance both M&R and C&S business priorities through communications campaigns including executive thought leadership, integrated programming supporting business development, and message platform/narrative development. This position is part of the Government Programs communications team and reports to the vice president of communications for UnitedHealthcare Government Programs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create and implement communication programs that drive Government Programs employee engagement and business results by clearly prioritizing messaging and inspiring employees to contribute their best toward our mission - to help people live healthier lives
  • Develop and manage relationships and effectively interact with a range of stakeholders, including the M&R and C&S CEOs and other senior executives, to create and execute internal communications plans that advance business priorities
  • Manage, coach and develop a team of internal communicators to support geographical markets, lines of business and functional areas
  • Partner closely with UnitedHealthcare M&R and C&S senior Human Capital partners on projects related to organizational structure, change management and employee engagement in the ongoing development and articulation of key company story lines and messages that will resonate and strengthen the businesses' connection with employees, including all I&D initiatives
  • Oversee the internal communications strategy and execution for M&A activity, integrating with external and corporate teams
  • Participate actively in shared services and broader UHC and UHG Corporate Communications department meetings in addition to key meetings including investor conference and large sales meetings
  • Align and govern communications across lines of business and external communications to ensure consistency of best practices, and appropriate customization
  • Serve as thought leader in aligning communications strategy with corporate mission and goals
  • Lead our approach to two-way internal feedback channels, leveraging internal media as appropriate
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders as needed and support internal peers' relationships with their respective stakeholders
  • Embody and promote UHG corporate values and ethics and demonstrate exemplary organizational skills and attention to detail

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years of communications experience within a matrix organization
  • 10+ years of project management experience
  • 10+ years of professional writing and editing experience
  • 10+ years of experience with the full suite of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • 10+ years of experience translating technical and scientific information into layman's terms
  • 5+ years of people management and leadership experience
  • 5+ years multi-media/social media experience (i.e., blogs, pod casting, etc.)
  • Experience working with and consulting senior executives
  • Integrated communications experience
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 25%

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $130,300 to $250,200. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
