What you will do

The Engineering Manager leads a team of product development engineers to successfully complete projects on-time and on-budget. The Engineering Manager will report to the Senior Engineering Manager within Special Hazards R&D. You will be leading a highly technical team of mechanical engineers responsible for developing fire protection equipment for a variety of applications and industries. You will interface with many internal functional departments and external resources as required for product development from conceptualization to product launch. As the Engineering Manager you will provide personal and professional development support to the engineers on your team.

How you will do it
  • Lead overall product development projects as assigned, coordinating all company efforts to commercialize the product.
  • Ensure compliance with all procedures for department organization, training and functions. Performs all elements of the job in accordance with established procedures.
  • Act as primary contact with approval agencies and react to all proposed changes and requests for comments. Provide on-going liaison with UL, FM, and other approval agencies.
  • Evaluate tools and techniques for applicability to engineering department function, makes recommendations, e.g., computer hardware/software, test equipment, and personnel training.
  • Review and approve engineering deliverables, e.g, product functional specification, DFMEA, DVP&R, design reviews.
  • Review timelines and budgets for completion of engineering tasks within the product development process.
  • Communicate with program management to identify roadblocks and mitigation plans to maintain schedule and budget commitments.

Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Demonstrated team leadership skills, coaches others toward positive outcomes, and
  • Strong interpersonal skills and decision-making ability.
  • Effective and professional communication with the ability to write reports and convey detailed technical information.

Preferred
  • Direct experience in people management and/or project management
  • Relevant experience in fire suppression product design and development.
  • Knowledge of fire suppression products, applications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with a stage-gate product development process.
  • Understanding of process methods and tools such as DFMEA, DVP&R, DOE, risk analysis.
  • Ability for occasional travel.
