SEH is seeking a full-time experienced Senior Traffic Engineer and Project Manager to join an established traffic engineering team of diverse skill sets. As a Senior Traffic Engineer, you will be responsible to provide leadership on the pursuit, scoping and management of traffic engineering and transportation projects. You will be responsible for managing and delivering the tasks or projects for a range of traffic engineering, transportation planning and design work including impact studies, corridor studies, area plans, multimodal studies, comprehensive plans, safety studies, and the preparation and coordination of design plans for traffic control, signing, pavement markings, traffic signals, and ITS.


This position within the traffic engineering group will also collaborate with and provide support to SEH's transportation, planning, civil, urban planning and community development groups throughout Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota. As needed and where interest is shown, you will also have the opportunity to collaborate on project teams in Wisconsin, Colorado and Indiana. The successful candidate must be able to market and manage traffic engineering work, as well as lead the preparation and completion of select traffic engineering deliverables. SEH is looking for an individual who has established client relationships with City, County, other agency and/or MnDOT staff in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Metro Area, greater Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and/or Iowa.


Responsibilities May Include:

  • Scope and manage traffic engineering, planning and design projects efficiently and cost-effectively, and with proven client satisfaction
  • Actively identify project pursuit opportunities, manage client relationships, develop new clients and lead or assist in the preparation of successful proposals and interviews
  • Assist in marketing SEH services to clients across other practices and offices Supervise work of others and collaborate across teams
  • Assist in development of the team through mentoring
  • Conduct and oversee traffic engineering tasks
  • Provide reviews and coordinate reviews for deliverables to ensure accuracy and quality
  • Prepare and present technical analysis and information to diverse audiences through a variety of written and oral communication methods

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Minnesota
  • Six or more years of previous experience specializing in Transportation and Traffic engineering
  • Previous project management experience
  • Previous experience conducting and directing traffic engineering project work which may include some of the following examples: traffic operations analysis, impact studies, corridor studies, area plans, multimodal studies, comprehensive plans, safety studies, and the preparation of design plans for traffic control, signing, pavement markings, traffic signals, and ITS
  • Possess a valid driver's license and be able to provide own means of reliable transportation for occasional day trips
  • Ability to travel as needed for team meetings, client consultations, business development excursions, on-site inspections/visits; occasional overnight travel may be required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Established client relationships with City, County, other agency and/or MnDOT staff in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Metro Area, and/or greater Minnesota. Additional relationships in North Dakota, South Dakota and/or Iowa are a plus.
  • Previous experience managing multidisciplined teams and/or complex projects
  • Active participation in professional organizations, conferences and technical publications
  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification
  • Ability to perform and/or oversee the preparation of traffic studies, analysis and modeling using Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, VISSIM and other traffic capacity and analysis software
  • Working knowledge of GIS, Microstation, AutoCAD and/or Civil3D
  • Working knowledge of MnDOT/MnMUTCD Standards and Design Practices
  • Supervisory and/or mentoring experience
