Occasional partial Saturday required. Biobank is located at a separate building, need to have valid drivers license and vehicle.

Job Summary

Under specific direction, performs technical procedures in the Medical Genetics Laboratory in a manner that ensures accurate and reliable clinical results following Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and College of American Pathologists (CAP) guidelines. Runs complex pieces of equipment requiring advanced specialized training. May perform specialized genetic testing for diagnostic purposes. Cleans, sterilizes, and maintains equipment and lab area. Utilizes knowledge of scientific process and specific clinical laboratory protocols. Possesses the ability to measure, troubleshoot, and report clinical results. Comprehends numeric concepts and performs numeric calculations. Participates in the development and revision of standard operating procedures and policies. Ability to work collaboratively with a research and/or clinical group or team.

Requires motor skills to utilize various laboratory equipment and perform various procedures. Ability to work occasional irregular hours, including some weekends and rotating holidays. Ability to travel to other laboratory locations as necessary. Participates in the on-call schedule during non-business hours for monitoring and responding to alarms for temperature monitoring. Becomes involved with special projects as necessary. This position has the potential to cross train into specialized laboratory testing, including but not limited to, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), sanger sequencing, tissue culture, array platforms, etc).

Qualifications

Bachelor s degree in a clinical, health, or life science field (biology, chemistry, biochemistry etc).

Demonstrated lab experience, including but not limited to college laboratory experience.

Certification or eligibility for certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathologists is preferred.

Current valid driver s license, and must meet all medical guidelines for Sanford Health Category III drivers.
