Description
This position exists to serve as the senior financial manager for the Division of Research and Economic Development. This position will be the key financial manager for Statewide grants. These are highly complex programs that fund multiple principal investigators (PIs) at multiple ND universities and colleges, including Tribal Colleges. The position provides financial assistance for faculty research across the NDUS associated with statewide grants and assists the Director of Strategic Finance, Operations and Reporting with budget functions at NDSU, providing timely and rapid responses to requests for information and data from NDSU as well as from the NDUS office. Specific activities include but are not limited to special projects, budget monitoring, and budget development. The position will also provide financial assistance and coordination, including assisting with reporting, for the division broadly as directed by the Director of Strategic Finance, Operations and Reporting
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide financial assistance and coordination, including assisting with reporting
- Assist with proposals and grants associated with the division and/or of high priority to the division as necessary
- Assist with financial data, grant data or other relevant data associated with division reporting
- Execution of key Statewide programs
- Assist the Director, Strat. Fin, Ops and Rpt in the execution of key Statewide programs
- Maintain communication lines with UND STEM faculty and staff
- Assist with preparing annual and final reports to UND and sponsors as well as collecting and summarizing data for proposal preparation
- Provide collaborative administrative and logistic support
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Strat. Fin, Ops and Rp
- Budget Maintenance and Development
- Provide financial assistance of all UND Statewide grants and activities (federal and state funds)
- Provide budget preparation, records management, procurement and payment processes for Statewide funds in compliance with UND policies and procedures and the federal grant agency award guidelines
- Generate and review PeopleSoft Finance module (to include the grants management) system reports
- Assist with EPSCoR budget/expenditure auditing
- Coordinate the preparation and distribution of monthly reports to faculty members
- Prepare monthly invoice documentation
- Coordinate and assist in the preparation and submission of grant proposals
Required Competencies
- Must have significant experience with MS Office applications and robust computer skills.
- Must be detail oriented and accurate.
- Must have strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills and have demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Must be self-motivated.
- Must be able to function independently as well as part of a team.
- Must possess maturity to handle confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Must demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills and critical analyses abilities.
- Must have strong verbal & written communication skills.
- Must have good customer service skills and work respectfully with University faculty, staff, and external partners.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in business, accounting, or a related field.
- Five years directly related work experience.
- Experience in office management, budget preparation, and writing reports.
- Experience working with contracts and / or agreements.
- Experience with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Successful completion of criminal history records check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Six or more years of directly related work experience.
- Experience in a university setting.
- Experience with UND policies and procedures, such as, travel, accounting, and payroll.
- Experience with the OMB Uniform Guidance.
- Experience with PeopleSoft HRMS / Finance modules or other ERP applications.
- Supervisory experience.
Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification
Commensurate with Experience, Exempt, Full-Time, Benefited
Work Schedule/Start Date
Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
