Position Summary:

This position is responsible for inspiring, mentoring, and leading the delivery of comprehensive financial advice to Alerus clients; empowering Financial Guides to enhance existing client relationships and developing new business opportunities by assisting clients in their selection of Alerus solutions by recommending appropriate Alerus products and services to ensure the client successfully achieves their financial wellness goals. The Lead Financial Guide is responsible for achieving growth goals in accordance with the company's vision and growth objectives for the market. Lead Financial Guides are responsible for enhancing existing relationships (60%) and developing new business opportunities (40%) within their own portfolio of clients.

Essential Responsibilities:

Job Function 1: Leadership/Employee Management - 40%
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and coaching to enhance the client experience and delivery of financial advice.
  • Demonstrate service excellence, effective problem solving, decision making, and communication skills on a daily basis, setting a positive example for team members.
  • Recognize and celebrate individual and team achievements.
  • Manage service excellence through effective use of resources when taking care of client calls, business development opportunities, and appropriate branch coverage.
  • Monitor and review performance management reports, to include performance plans, reviews, and development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Financial Advisor and Market President to improve business development, client relations, staff development, and delivery of services.
  • Utilize Sandler process for coaching the Financial Advisors on prospecting and providing solutions to clients.
  • Ensure the use of the CRM software for tracking opportunities, maintaining client communications and follow-up needs.
  • Assist market president in development of the strategic sales plan for market.
  • Identifying and sourcing talent within the guide, the company, and externally for the purpose of adding talent to the team and succession planning.
  • Communicate performance expectations and monitor performance plans.
  • Lead team meetings and team projects.

Job Function 2: Client Consultation & Service - 20%
  • Effectively manage, analyze, and grow a portfolio of clients to provide knowledgeable advice to accomplish a high level of financial wellness.
  • Assist portfolio of clients in selection of financial solutions by serving as the primary point of contact.
  • Learn client's financial objectives and provide basic financial guidance & planning utilizing the complete Alerus product offering.
  • Perform regular proactive relationship reviews based on complexity and product or service level on assigned portfolio.
  • Work closely with personal financial guides, business advisors, associates, and product experts as necessary to fulfill client's financial needs.
  • Ability to originate consumer and business depository accounts, consumer and small business lending products, and Alerus investment products.
  • Update CRM software to capture client activity, schedule required follow-up actions, and effectively onboard clients.
  • Facilitate 401(k) and benefits participant enrollment & education meetings as a member of the business advisor support team.
  • Identify opportunities to develop relationships with employees of commercial clients.

Job Function 3: New Business & Client Development - 20%
  • Proactively solicit new business opportunities with existing clients through the relationship review process including opportunities identified by CRM software.
  • Place calls to prospective clients to discuss their financial needs and objectives by making outside sales calls, channel contacts, and through other forms of network building.
  • Deliver solutions utilizing the steps in the Sandler process.
  • Actively represent Alerus in the marketplace by establishing a network of influencers, active involvement in community organizations (i.e. Chamber, Rotary, etc.) and participation in networking organizations.
  • Utilize CRM software to track new opportunities and schedule prospecting follow-up communication.

Job Function 4: Professional & Personal Development - 20%
  • Develop and maintain a basic level of knowledge encompassing the financial services industry and sales management practices, staying current on trends that impact Alerus' relevancy in its competitive space.
  • Maintain a general understanding of basic financial planning concepts including loans, depository products, investments, income and estate tax planning, protection planning, charitable planning, and liquidity planning.
  • Ability to execute most but still learning all Alerus solutions for the consumer client.
  • Assume responsibility for career growth and development. Actively pursue continuing education, reading, and self-development to enhance skills.
  • Build solid working relationships with team members, acting as a resource for others.

Position Requirements:

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business related field or equivalent experience.
  • Five years of financial services experience, to include five of progressive supervisory or management level experience, with preference to sales management.
  • Dedication to service excellence with at least seven years of demonstrated client service experience.
  • Defined plan to achieve or completion of professional and/or financial services accreditation(s) i.e. CFP, CFA, CPA, JD, CWS, MBA
  • Defined plan to maintain an active financial services license, i.e. Insurance, Investment, Brokerage
  • Committed to developing, coaching empowering and communicating with staff and continuously developing leadership skills.
  • Math proficiency and aptitude.
  • Demonstrated sales ability.

  • Effective communication skills and willingness to work with a team.

Physical Demands - Must be met with or without a reasonable accommodation:
  • Extended periods of time sitting at a desk and using office equipment.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer/laptop for approximately 8 hours per day.
  • Extended time is spent reviewing physical and electronic documents.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
  • Periodically, may also do light lifting of supplies and materials which weighs in at approximately 20 lbs.
  • Will spend most of time in an indoor environment.
  • Ability to travel as needed to other markets and locations.
