We need a retail manager who loves to communicate with others (in person, over the phone, e-mail, and social media) and wants to champion the community of Mitchell!

This person will need to bring energy to the position and have a positive outlook. You need to be a planner, organized and resourceful and able to collaborate with a small team, but numerous part-time and seasonal staff.

Preference will be given to candidates who hold a bachelor’s degree and have retail management experience, including purchasing and controlling inventory, and merchandising.

Supervision of personnel including hiring and training and overseeing financial management of the Tourism Enterprise Division are key responsibilities. This person will help develop and implement a marketing plan to promote Mitchell and the World’s Only Corn Palace.

This is a full-time position with benefits including health and dental insurance, retirement plan with employer match, paid holidays, and paid time off.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree and 3-5 years retail experience
Supervises and leads staff, including hiring, training, and conducting annual evaluations
Must possess excellent organizational skills, be initiative-taking, and work well in a team 
      environment.
Proficient with computers, internet, and software, including Microsoft Office products (Word, 
Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)


Responsibilities
Manages the retail and wholesale business of the Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce including but not limited to the purchasing of inventory, retail merchandising, and inventory control for the Corn Palace Gift Shop and South Dakota Made Gift Shop. 

Hires, trains, supervises, all personnel and staff required for the operation of the Corn Palace gift and souvenir business including Corn Palace Visitor Information staff and Corn Palace tour guides. 

Works with the CFO on the preparation of financial records and statements for the Corn Palace and Chamber gift shop businesses including monthly and annual financial statements, bank deposits, annual audits, and development of an annual budget for the Enterprise Division of the Chamber of Commerce.

Manages visitor data: market research; attendance records for local visitor attractions; analyze industry trends; quarterly budget analysis; visitor expenditures.

Maintains and schedules bus tour groups and visitor requests for the Corn Palace.

Assists in marketing efforts for the World’s Only Corn Palace. 

Assists in daily gift shop operations as needed. 

Provides monthly report to Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Assumes additional responsibilities as needed.
