The Nurse Educator is responsible for identifying the educational needs of Hospital Nursing Services (Medical-Surgical, ICU, OB, Swing Bed, Observation, Emergency Department, Infusion Services).# Plans, develops, organizes, conducts, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates programs for orientation, on-going and in-service education, and core competencies. The educator works collaboratively with the Riverwood education department to assist in organizing and providing education for all staff. # # # This position provides care for or assistance to patients of all ages, including newborns, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and older adults.#

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

In collaboration with department leadership and the Riverwood Education/Human Resources Department, identifies the educational needs of Hospital Nursing Services (HNS) and communicates these needs to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).

Develops a yearly educational plan, based on input from key stakeholders.

Assures compliance with state and federal regulations relative to hospital nursing education.

Participates in external surveys, i.e., TJC, MDH, COC, etc.

Develops, updates, and/or provides input to relevant policies and procedures to align with evidence- based practice.

Organizes, coordinates, and conducts clinical orientation for nursing service personnel.

Organizes, coordinates, and conducts on-going education and in-service education programs for nursing service personnel and Riverwood staff.

Organizes, coordinates, and conducts a core competency program for Nursing Service personnel.

Facilitates maintenance of nursing service personnel education records of attendance and due dates for on-going educational needs.

Communicates incoming mailings or electronic communication regarding workshops/seminars or other educational opportunities to nursing staff.

Demonstrates flexibility with schedule and responsibilities, based on educational programming needs, and reprioritizes as indicated.

Remains current in their field by demonstrating and role modeling lifelong learning, including but not limited to, reading journals and attending continuing education.

Regularly informs the CNO of needs, concerns, and changes within their department.

Promotes service excellence by demonstrating polite, cooperative, collaborative, and respectful behavior to both internal and external customers.

Completes mandatory educational requirements within defined timelines.

Safeguard security and confidentiality of data/information according to HIPAA guidelines, including password security with electronic systems.

Carries out duties in a safe manner, teaches and role models appropriate use of safety devices provided to protect self and others. Reports safety hazards, incidents, and near misses as appropriate.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Proficiency in all responsible areas of nursing. BSN greatly preferred. Minimum of five years RN experience required. One year of experience in nursing education preferred. Computer skills required.
