Position description
The Respiratory Care Practitioner should have a general working knowledge in all aspects of respiratory care. The RCP must be able to perform all therapeutic and diagnostic procedures offered by the department in an appropriate cost-effective manner. The RCP must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served and support medical staff and other hospital staff in providing quality patient care.

Graduate of board accredited Respiratory Therapy program
Respiratory assessment skills
Knowledge of developmental stages and age appropriate outcomes and interventions.
Knowledge of cultural differences and culturally appropriate outcomes and interventions
Critical thinking skills.
Technical respiratory care skills related to assigned patient populations.
Interpersonal skills.
Respiratory theory and practice.
Knowledge of emergency and other relevant procedures.
Infection control principles and practice

Knowledge or patient education principles

Additional qualifications
Preferred: One to three years in an acute care setting
Ability to perform independently. Creative problem solving skills
Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance. May be required to work weekends or overtime.

License or certification
Licensure & Certification: All respiratory therapists will hold the National Board for Respiratory Care entry level certification (CRT) prior to their first day of Mayo employment. All graduate respiratory therapists must possess valid permission (permanent or temporary permit) to practice with the licensing board in the state of hire prior to their first day of Mayo employment. The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential is required upon hire or by the end of one year of employment and must be maintained throughout employment. Additional NBRC specialty credentials preferred.Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 60 days of employment. Pediatric Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required within one year of hire.

Compensation Detail
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $28.79 per hour.
