Position Description & Details

A Post-Doc position in the fields of structural corrosion, corrosion control and mitigation, and high-performance coatings is immediately available under supervision of both Dr. Zhibin Lin (Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering) and Dr. Xiaoning Qi (Department of Coatings and Polymeric Materials), North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND. The selected candidate is expected to be familiar with the development and characterization of structural coatings to promote sustainable metallic structures. The expected research activities include:
  • Participating in research on the development of high-performance coatings.
  • Conducting/developing experimental testing on structural corrosion control and mitigation.
  • Participating/leading research proposal writing and report preparation.
  • Assisting in supervising M.S. and Ph.D. students

This is a one-year position with the possibility of extension for the following years depends on work performance and available funding. The position is immediately available with a flexible start date.

Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D. with a background in structural engineering, or similar fields, with focus on structural corrosion.
  • Ability to work and lead project research activities independently or collectively with other disciplines.
  • Strong writing and interpersonal skills .


  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong research background in developing and applying high-performance coatings for structural corrosion mitigation, including knowledge of coating formulation, inclusion of nanomaterials in coatings and microstructural characterization of materials.
  • Ability to develop ideas and experience of drafting grant proposals.
  • Experience conducting original research and publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
