Responsibilities

Mayo Clinic Global Security Supervisors will oversee the activities and supervision of the security officers by assisting with problems, providing direction, determining appropriate action, and disseminating information.
The supervisor will meet budgetary specifications and maintain a budget in conjunction with the manager or security operations. The role also includes ongoing collaboration and communication utilizing shared goal setting and decision making with physicians, associate providers, department staff and multidisciplinary team members.
The supervisor serves as a focal point for emergencies and ensures a safe and secure environment. They participate in the hiring and training of new Security Officers. They will perform routine security officer functions as needed in conjunction with their other duties.


May utilize security vehicle on a regular or occasional basis; enforces Mayo policies and responds to complaints and service calls for wrongdoing, prepares incident reports/activity logs, and may work in the Security control centers.
A Supervisor adapts to unpredictable and stressful situations; manages altercations and emergency crises in an effective and professional manner; operates and communicates on a two-way radio; exhibits good judgment, maturity, initiative, tact and diplomacy when dealing with people in stressful situations. They will frequently be walking, standing, stooping, bending, lifting, pulling, climbing, reaching, and pushing, and occasionally running; is able to move quickly up and down stairwells, from the ground floor up to the top floor of each building without assistance; assists patients, volunteers, visitors, and staff with emergency evacuations, including evacuations in stairwells, to include handling emergency evacuation devices used to transport patients and others to safety; makes effective decisions as an emergency first responder, is confident in stressful situations, and works as a team member with other emergency responders, including law enforcement and fire/rescue personnel.
They are able to work nights and weekends for security and protection assignments and when required by emergency or special situations.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, security, or a related field required. Five years of work experience in security, healthcare, corrections or related field of equivalent training/education.


Additional Qualifications

Progressive experience in a healthcare/management role required. Experience in patrolling, incident report writing, defensive tactics, emergency response, lock/unlock procedures, door access, and CCTV camera operation; experience with Windows XP or newer as well as intermediate skills in Microsoft Office software applications; technical aptitude to work with Security Technology is preferred.
Previous security experience; able to work independently and in a team-environment; requires strong sense of customer service and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, visitors and employees; requires strong written and verbal skills; strong problem solving skills are necessary.
Has the ability to read and communicate effectively in a pleasant, courteous, professional and friendly manner. Maintains a professional appearance at all times per organizational and department standards. Can restrain potentially violent individuals; demonstrated ability to remain calm and assume control of emergency situations.
Staff must participate in routine and ongoing training and development programs as required by the organization or department.

License or Certification

Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record in accordance with Mayo Clinic Policy; must obtain Supervisory Level Certification from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 6 months. Training certification in Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), basic CPR and AED, required within 1 year; defensive tactics certification required within 1 year; Additionally, the supervisor shall undergo and pass a Fitness for Duty Assessment (where and when applicable), and every 2 years thereafter depending on site.
