Position Description & Details

The Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) at North Dakota State University (NDSU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level in Geotechnical Engineering effective Fall 2022. Applicants in any emerging geotechnical engineering areas of national and international relevance will be considered. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated research capability in innovative experimental and/or theoretical research that will enable development of a sponsored research program and a strong record of peer-reviewed publications, and a strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate is expected to make use of shared facilities and research space in a recently developed geostructures laboratory. Preference will be given to candidates with excellent communication skills, exceptional research record, potential to obtain federal grants, ability to bring a diverse perspective to the department, and a professional engineering license.

Minimum Requirements

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering and Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • An earned doctorate by the time of appointment is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.


  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated evidence of an externally funded research program or the evidence of the potential to establish an externally funded research program
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are registered professional engineers or eligible to become registered within three years of appointment.
  • Evidence of ability to work in teams and collaborate with constituents beyond the department and college.

    The Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering at North Dakota State University is internationally renowned for teaching and research excellence. The successful candidate will join a 19-faculty member department dedicated to high-quality teaching, research, and service. Active research and teaching programs cover the areas of geotechnical, structural, transportation, environmental, and water resources engineering, materials, and construction management and engineering. The department offers bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering, environmental engineering, construction engineering, and construction management, and a doctorate degree in civil engineering. The Department also participates in environmental and conservation sciences (ECS) and materials and nanotechnology (MNT) interdisciplinary graduate programs.
