The STEMI (ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction) and Stroke Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing protocols, and educating and providing feedback to staff and providers. The coordinator abstracts and enters data into registries and provides support.
Essential Job Functions Title and Description
Develops, implements, and manages STEMI/Stroke Service programs as delegated.

Participates in establishing and coordinating STEMI/Stroke treatment and operation policies and protocols.

Reviews STEMI/Stroke patient's clinical records across the continuum of care and keeps physician group informed of inconsistencies and does so through clinical rounding and chart review.

Identifies patient education needs for incorporation in community service projects and regional education programs.

Coordinates patient experience for local and regional heart attack and stroke patients being treated by Altru Health System.

Builds consensus with the medical staff working in cooperation with physicians on strategy and program direction from the Emergency Room, Neurology and Interventional Cardiology.

Provides assistance through monitoring of regional Quality Improvement activities and participation in regional meetings in an effort to identify and resolve system-wide issues.

Services as a liaison to medical staff, residents both local and regional, pre-hospital agencies, the patient and the patient's family. Provides consultative support to regional medical facilities and Emergency Medical Services to ensure a total systems approach to the care of a Cardiac/Stroke patient.

Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
  • Demonstrates understanding and follows infection control policies and procedures according to standard operating procedure.
  • Maintains requirements for age specific competencies for the position and demonstrates the knowledge or principles of growth and developments and the skills necessary to provide patient/customer care/services.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of and compliance with:
    • All pertinent safety, health and environmental policies, procedures and guidelines.
    • Working safely, without causing harm or risk to self, others or property.
    • The work environment safety procedures and prompt reporting of unsafe practices, procedures, accidents, injuries or other safety violations to the Leader.
    • The use of all safety equipment and personal protective equipment.
