This is a full-time benefited position work Monday- Friday. Weekend work is every 6th and Holiday work is every 6th.
The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) performs a thorough and complete preanesthetic assessment; obtains informed consent; formulates, implements and adjusts the anesthesia plan of care; provides anesthesia care and education regarding anesthesia care to patients of all ages. Performs pain assessment; administers medications; identifies changes or high risk situations in patient's condition; transfers the responsibility for the care of the patient assuring continuity of care; demonstrates knowledge and use of equipment; completes all documentation according to policy/procedure. Provides other necessary services throughout the hospital.

Responsibilities
- Reviews the medical charts and other available data for each assigned case in order to evaluate the physical status of the patient and plan the course of anesthesia to be undertaken. Confers with the surgeon regarding unusual or complex problems.
- Ensures that all equipment and supplies necessary for each case are available and functioning. Assembles and/or tests such equipment and supplies as the anesthesia machines, EKG and other monitoring equipment, ventilator, suction machine, and other necessary items for safe conduct of anesthesia. Prepares I.V. fluids and administering equipment and obtains all required drugs.
- Assists with positioning patients for the surgical procedure. Starts intravenous fluids if necessary and applies monitoring equipment.
- Induces and maintains surgical state of anesthesia including, but not limited to, fitting mask to patient's face and adjusting oxygen and gas flow, injecting intravenous anesthetic, using intertracheal techniques or other methods.
- Monitors and records patient's vital signs during surgery, observes patient for significant physical changes, and keeps surgeon informed of patient's condition at all times.
- Takes necessary remedial action as problems arise (such as aspiration and administration of oxygen in order to prevent asphyxiation, or surgical shock).
- Monitors and renders a safe and smooth patient emergence from anesthesia, administers drugs as necessary to reverse lingering effects of agents and drugs used during surgery.
- Transfers the patient from the operating room to the recovery room and ensures that the recovery room nurses are properly informed of the patient's condition. Checks and restarts I.V.'s if necessary. Records all pertinent case information on patient's anesthesia sheet.
- Disassembles anesthesia equipment, sterilizing instruments and equipment according to standard practices; requisitions necessary repairs, and orders replacement supplies and equipment.
- Prepares and maintains various operating records regarding cases handled and supplies and equipment used.
- Makes follow-up visits to patients post-op to evaluate their post-op condition.
- Responds to CODE BLUE and Trauma codes.
- Performs IV's on the nursing care units as requested.
- Insertion of PICC lines as ordered by physician.
- Responsible for Epidural insertion for analgesia obstetrics and post-op pain control.
- Provides IV or oral sedation with monitored anesthesia care in areas outside the OR as requested.
- Maintains 24-hour on-call coverage for Anesthesia Department.
- Participates and attends designated meetings, drills, and inservice programs. Attends mandatory programs and maintains CPR and ACLS certification per hospital policy.
Qualifications
- Requires certification as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Dakota.
- Prefer minimum of two years experience as a CRNA.
- Background Check required.
