Solar energy, wind energy and battery storage are some of the fastest growing renewable energy sources. As technologies advance and production costs decrease, Shell believes the number of customers choosing these sources of energy will continue to grow. Shell is building a Renewable Power business with projects being developed in different parts of the world that are aligned with our customers' needs.

Within the Renewable Power context, the Senior Renewable Power Project Developer - US is accountable to manage the development of hybrid solar, onshore wind and storage projects in the US and is responsible for supporting the delivery of Renewable Power Development's business plan in the region.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify, qualify, and propose greenfield opportunities to develop onshore Renewable Power projects for New Energies.
  • Own and drive greenfield development activity for renewable power projects in the US, including solar hybrid projects, onshore wind, and storage
  • Lead and inspire cross-functional teams to drive project delivery from inception through to investment decision
    • Support establishment of performance benchmarks, lead cross-functional project teams to meet and exceed them
    • Support development of best-in-class greenfield development process and tools via deep understanding of site acquisition, US transmission infrastructure, transmission planning process, interconnection process and local, state and federal permitting for renewables & storage assets.
    • Own and deliver against US greenfield development budget and milestone
    • Duly record project updates and progress reports, and identify project risks and possible solutions for upper management and Group discussions
  • Create and maintain effective communication and build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including project landowners to ensure that a forward view on project-specific requirements are effectively negotiated and secured
  • Champion high-quality decision making on own projects and act as peer reviewer for other projects
  • Support regional renewable power development strategy and implementation
  • Demonstrate visible HSSE leadership, and be an active part of a culture of appreciation/ gratitude, inclusiveness, and Radical Candor feedback.
  • Contribute to M&A opportunity identification and assessment within US renewable power and storage sector.
  • Work effectively with the Renewable Power Transmission team to develop and implement strategy for securing project grid interconnection and transmission
  • Work effectively with the Renewable Power Engineering teams to optimize equipment choices and layouts, identifying value-enhancing measures during design iterations
  • Identify value-added and profitability influencers through development, regulatory and permitting analysis to improve project bankability and/or returns
  • Ensure project-specific financial assessments capture all corresponding development, permitting and operational cost assumptions to support accurate financial modelling
  • Provide advice and guidance to affiliates within Shell on power generation projects or projects related to power generation
What we need from you
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
  • Proven track record of success in generating, developing, and delivering greenfield utility scale onshore renewable power projects in various markets in the US
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the power industry required, at least five years in development of PV, PVS, wind, and/or storage assets.
  • Expertise executing land campaigns and all early stage development activities including interconnection and environmental permitting
  • Strong project management skills, ability to build successful cross-functional teams, manage through influence, and drive performance.
  • The opportunity lead is expected to understand the interaction between all aspects of a project, and ensure the optimum is reached in terms of risk and value management.
  • Fluency in transmission and distribution planning. Experience working with utilities and/or grid authorities.
  • Assertive, able to cope with dynamic surroundings, a team player, prepared to travel up to 25% time.
  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant disciplines; Master's in business administration (MBA) preferred
  • Demonstrated initiative, ownership and focus regarding all tasks and deliverables related to project development.
  • Strong network within utility scale renewable power & storage generation.
  • Display a strong drive to deliver results, persistent in overcoming obstacles and eager to take responsibility for making things happen in a complex development landscape
  • Strong people management skills with ability to work in teams and applying integrative skills
  • Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong external network, experience and insights relevant to new energy technology and business model development.
  • Be able to cover a wide scope of activities and priorities.
  • Proven ability to establish strong relationships internally and externally and to collaborate within an integrated, multifunctional, commercially-oriented team
