Description

The Athletic Department at the University of North Dakota is currently recruiting for an Assistant Coach - Volleyball.  This position will assist the Head Volleyball Coach with all aspects of a Division I program. Must have a commitment to compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations. Must provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the student-athletes. This position provides comprehensive assistance to the Athletics Department in the area of providing comprehensive instruction to the volleyball team. This position will provide instruction to the team that includes teaching proper skills and techniques, teaching basic physical health concepts to include nutritional education, teaching team and individual leadership concepts/skills as well as providing general safety instruction. 

The purpose of UND Athletics is to initiate, stimulate and improve the athletics program for student-athletes to promote and develop their education leadership, physical fitness, athletic excellence and provide opportunities for participation in a sport of choice.  Its competitive athletics program is designed to be a vital part of the University of North Dakota’s education system by stressing the importance of each student-athlete being an active part of the student body while making satisfactory progress toward a baccalaureate degree.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction specific to volleyball team that includes teaching proper skills & technique, basic physical health concepts (to include nutritional education), team & individual leadership concepts/skills, as well as providing general safety instruction. 
  • Recruit and evaluate prospective student-athletes.
  • Assist & run practices under the direction of the Head Coach.
  • Coordinate official and unofficial campus visits, as assigned. 
  • Assist with team travel & scouting as assigned.
  • Serve as role model and demonstrate a professional working relationship with student-athletes, staff, administration, alumni, and general public. 
  • Assist with social media for volleyball program, when applicable.
  • Assist with all aspects of volleyball camps & clinics, including following all University hiring procedures.
  • Develop community support for the program and participate in volleyball & athletics department fundraising activities, as assigned.
  • Follow all NCAA, conference, UND rules & regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned by Head Coach.

Required Competencies

  • Must have effective professional working relationship with student-athletes, staff, administration, alumni, and general public.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and computer skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize.
  • Ability to teach and work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Must have a commitment to academic success of student-athletes.
  • Must have a commitment to NCAA compliance and follow all NCAA, conference, and UND rules & regulations.
  • Must provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the student-athletes, including having a valid Driver’s License.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of coaching experience at the collegiate or professional level.
  • Successful completion of criminal history background check.
  • Valid Driver's License.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Four (4) years of collegiate or professional volleyball playing experience.
  • Three (3) years of collegiate volleyball recruiting experience.
  • Head or assistant coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level.
  • National volleyball team playing experience.
  • Experience coordinating volleyball camps.
  • Experience with scouting, film, and processing data.
  • Experience with VolleyMetrics and/or Data Volley.

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$40,000/year - $42,700/year

Work Schedule/Start Date

Travel expected up to 25% of the time for team competitions and recruiting.  Desired start date to be communicated during interview process.
