Position Information

The North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station (NDAES) is looking for an experienced research statistician developer to join the NDAES Data Pipeline team. To satisfy our growing user needs, careful research, selection and development of appropriate statistical methods and algorithms is necessary. The research statistician developer will take a lead role in these efforts, as well as build high-quality statistical applications to simplify end-user workflows. Job duties will include consulting with research teams seeking help with experimental design and assisting users in running appropriate statistical tests. Additional experience creating, maintaining, and developing R packages and Shiny applications is necessary. Working closely with technical testing and research groups will be imperative for developing useful graphical applications. The incumbent must have experience analyzing and visualizing data and results from statistical analyses, as well as developing and running data quality control procedures. Finally, the statistician developer will be in charge to provide support for selected tools, and assisting senior pipeline manager in training and testing.

Required Qualifications:
  • Position requires a M.S. in statistics, applied mathematics, or closely related field of study
  • Experience in statistical and computer programming in R, SAS, JSL, and R Shiny
  • Experience in building and evaluating mixed models
  • Experience with utilizing and evaluating machine learning models
  • Experience to coherently organize high volumes of information from multiple data sources
  • Experience to secure and maintain data integrity
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Familiarity using SQL to interact with relational databases
  • Proficiency in written and oral communication in English
  • Working well in a diverse team environment with multiple stakeholders across the NDAES system
  • Experience meeting deadlines for timely decisions

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with agricultural/biological organisms' datasets, experimental designs, and mixed model analyses
  • Experience with cloud computing systems
  • Knowledge of one or more coding languages is highly desirable (e.g. Python, Java Script, CSS, HTML)
  • Experience with version control and using repositories

Advertised Salary: $65,000+/year
