Position Information

T he Web Developer is a technology-based, professional position, essential to the user experience of the NDSU Libraries, its locations, and its services. Because our websites are how students, faculty, and staff experience the Libraries, this position is key to the research mission of NDSU. As a member of the Library Systems department, the Web Developer is responsible for site management, configurations, support, and assisting with integrations of web-based services. These will include a number of 3rd party applications that manage traditional library services, resources and informational content, and will require good content management practices. Our goal is that content presentation occurs in a holistic way, providing consistently good user experience. The Web Developer will take an active role in the planning and implementation of web services, liaise with library and campus partners, while conforming to the established NDSU's brand and message. This position includes participation in committee work, and other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will have ample opportunity for the development new skills. Candidates must be eligible to work in the US prior to applying; sponsorship is unavailable for this position.

Responsibilities:
  • Focus on providing exceptional service to internal and external customers through a professional and team-driven environment.
  • Create and maintain the Libraries' digital initiatives and associated web pages, applications, and operations.
  • Ensure all Libraries sites are inclusive and comply with ADA standards for accessibility.
  • Assist and train Libraries' staff and other constituencies in the use of the Libraries' digital initiatives and allied web technologies.
  • Participate in or lead collaborative activities, committee work, and completes other assigned tasks.
  • Content strategy: Library websites include a number of 3rd party services, resources, and informational content that needs to be presented in a holistic way that provides a good user experience.

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday 40 hour flexible daytime schedule

Advertised Salary:

$48,500+/year

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, XML and responsive design principles
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • 2 or more years experience implementing websites using CMS platforms (Drupal, WordPress, Joomla, etc.) or using a web development framework (Django, Flask, Ruby on Rails, Laravel, Symfony, React, Vue.js, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Customer service experience
  • Willingness to learn new technologies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience building large, complex sites
  • Website development experience using Drupal
  • Experience with PHP and JavaScript programming
  • Experience with Java, Python, or Ruby
  • Experience implementing a website using a JavaScript framework (Angular, React, Vue, JQuery, Ember, Node, etc.)
  • Java development environment experience (building/deploying web applications, Maven, Ant)
  • Experience working in a library, museum, cultural heritage, or higher education environment.
