About the Job

The University of Minnesota Crookston, one of five campuses comprising the University of Minnesota system, invites applications for a full time faculty member to teach classes and lead the Bachelor of Manufacturing Management Program in the Department of Business. Individuals with a terminal degree and demonstrated potential for research will be considered for a tenure-line appointment. Individuals with a master's degree and/or a terminal degree but without an interest in research will be considered for a full-time lecturer appointment.

Position

Full-time, nine-month tenure track position or lecturer position in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering in the Business Department at the Crookston campus of the University of Minnesota starting August 15, 2022. Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience. A competitive fringe benefits package is offered.

Responsibilities

Deliver high quality undergraduate instruction on campus and online to the students in the Manufacturing Management and Quality Management programs. Course topics include, but not limited to, Operations Management, Discrete Event Simulation, Manufacturing Processes, Applied Quality, Lean Six Sigma, Sustainability and Compliance, Product Development, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Facilities Planning and Selection, Industrial Safety, and Metrology.

Whether a tenure-line faculty member or a full-time lecturer, the successful candidate will be expected to:
  • provide leadership and assistance in the development and implementation of program goals and objectives;
  • advance collaborative partnership initiatives with regional two-year colleges, specifically including Alexandria Technical and Community College;
  • advise students; participate in recruitment and retention efforts;
  • help expand the network with industry to benefit programs and student experiences, as well as employment opportunities;
  • provide service to the department, institution, and profession; and
  • work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary faculty.

Candidates who wish to be considered for a tenure-line appointment are expected to establish a research program with a focus on operations, quality, or manufacturing systems. Tenure-line appointments carry a 24.0 credit teaching load (typically four 3.0 credit courses per semester).

Candidates who wish to be considered for a full-time lecturer appointment are not expected to establish a research agenda. Full-time lecturer appointments carry a 30.0 credit teaching load (typically five 3.0 credit courses per semester).

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree in Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management, or related field (tenure-track candidates);
  • Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management, or related field (lecturer candidates);
  • Effective communication skills;
  • Ability to deliver effective teaching both on campus and online;
  • Ability to draw upon cultural and community-based knowledge in teaching;
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural competency within the scope of the land grant mission;
  • Ability to maintain a scholarly research agenda consistent with tenure expectations for the Business Department at UMN Crookston (tenure-track candidates only);
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English;
  • Commitment to an experiential educational philosophy within the scope of the land grant mission.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree in Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management, or related field (lecturer candidates not interested in maintaining a scholarly research agenda);
  • University teaching experience;
  • Research experience in an academic institution;
  • Industry experience;
  • Experience with externally funded projects and grants;
  • Familiarity with computer-based instructional technology;
  • Proficiency in a second language, preferably Spanish.
