Position Information

The Department of Plant Pathology at North Dakota State University has a research specialist position available to conduct applied plant pathology research on important diseases found in barley in North Dakota. The individual will 1) manage all aspects of off-site field research locations including planting, application of plant protection products, pathogen inoculation, data analysis and harvest, 2) conduct laboratory and greenhouse experiments to evaluate efficacy of disease management products, 3) aid in experimental design and statistical analysis 4) process data and reports for the North American Scab Evaluation Nursery (NABSEN) and produce data reports for other current run 5) work cooperatively with staff, faculty and students and 6) communicate and cooperate with public and private sector stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Plant Pathology, Plant Science Biology or a closely related agricultural discipline
  • Experience working with plant pathogens and plant diseases
  • Experience with small plot research
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • M.S. in Plant Pathology or closely related discipline
  • Experience working with economically important diseases of crops in the Great Plains
  • Experience increasing pathogens in greenhouse and laboratory settings
  • Experience with operation of small plot equipment; experience with statistical analysis; demonstrated ability to effectively interact with stakeholders and/or cooperators.
