We are seeking an Orthopedic Physical Therapy Resident to:
  • Attend and participate in didactic education designed to advance clinical reasoning and pattern recognition in orthopedic physical therapy.
  • Challenge their own and fellow residents' clinical decision making through constructive feedback in didactic units and case presentations.
  • Form alliances with patients and their families with the common goal of optimizing function following acute and chronic episodes of pain and dysfunction as well as surgeries.
  • Collaborate with other providers in coordinating patient and family care across multiple services.
  • Receive and modify practice patterns based on constructive feedback from mentors.
  • Serve as instructional assistant for the University of Wisconsin Doctor of Physical Therapy orthopedic courses.

Education:

Minimum - Graduate of an accredited, entry-level degree program (Baccalaureate or higher) in Physical Therapy is required.

Licenses and Certifications:

Minimum -
  • Licensure as a Physical Therapist in the State of Wisconsin is required.
  • Certification in Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automatic External Defibrillator is required.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with a variety of equipment, including computer software, is required.
  • Organization, time management, flexibility, and positive attitude are crucial to successful performance.

Physical Requirements:

Medium: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Work Schedule:

Full-Time; 40 per week for one year residency. Residents rotate approximately every 16 weeks among: UW Health Spine Physical Therapy at Research Park, UW Health at The American Center, and UnityPoint Health - Meriter Deming Way. Work schedule will vary based on the clinic and rotation, but will fall within the following:
  • 7:00 AM - 7:30 pm Monday through Thursday
  • 7:00 AM - 5:30 pm Friday
