Duties

As a POLICE OFFICER, GS-0083-6, you will:

This position is located in an Air National Guard Wing, Mission Support Group, Security Forces Squadron. The primary purpose of this position is to protect Federal property from hazards such as sabotage, espionage, trespass, theft, fire, and accident or willful damage and destruction. To maintain law and order, preserve the peace, and protect life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of the military installation.

  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

Qualifications

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.

COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: Selected individual must be assigned to a compatible military position in the following AFSC upon date of hire: AFSC 3P0X1. The AFSC(s) require an aptitude of G33 and a physical profile of K222121. Aptitude scores can be checked on the vMPF or at the Customer Service in the Force Support Squadron and physical profile in the medical squadron. Military grade inversion within the full-time work force is not permitted. The military grade of the full time supervisor must equal or exceed the military grade of personnel supervised.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: A National Guard Title 32 Dual Status applicant must have a validated understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the occupational series and grade. For entry appointment to the GS-06 position, the applicant requires the completion of high school or general educational development equivalency; along with the successful completion of an equivalent military security or police training course.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Should have knowledge of practical security force (SF) activities in direct support of the military weapon systems and physical security; law and order; or area security operations. May have work experiences in law enforcement, maintaining law and order, preserving the peace, and protecting life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of civilian/public areas or military installations. May have experiences in protecting federal property from hazards such as sabotage, espionage, trespass, theft, fire, and accident or willful damage and destruction. May have experiences in responding to disaster and relief operations and participates in contingencies.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities (KSAs): Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a separate sheet(s) addressing the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) and how they relate to work experience, education or training.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement, maintaining law and order, preserving the peace, and protecting life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of military installations.
  • Knowledge of firearms and tactics utilized in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of alarm and electronic monitoring system operations and how to interpret signals and other outputs.
  • Skill to use firearms in emergency situations.
  • Skill to gather facts and use effective, analytical, and established methods to accurately assess a situation and determine the appropriate course of action.
** NOTE ** This is an Indefinite Appointment. Management reserves the right to convert this appointment to a permanent position without further competition and will discuss this option with applicants selected for interviews. Person selected for the position may be terminated at any time, upon 30-day written notice.
