During COVID-19 Pandemic this position may require the ability to temporarily work remote within the company service territory until company protocol dictates return to the office criteria has been met. Once approved the worksite is Minneapolis, MN area or Henderson, Colorado area.

Preference will be given to candidates from the Minneapolis Metro, MN or Denver Metro, CO areas, (reasonable commute distances).

The intern position will be comprised of diagnostic work in the Monitoring and Diagnostic (M&D) center. Work will include development of wind turbine diagnostic models, thermal and mechanical model maintenance, develop analytical tools, maintain department records and other tasks as assigned by senior M&D engineers.

Work with Engineering staff to support plant projects, both capital and ops/maintenance. Work as an entry level engineering analyst doing tasks spanning all aspects of plant operations monitoring including performance/efficiency, mechanical health, making process Improvement recommendations and supporting requests from operations and maintenance. The successful candidate will gain significant practical experience and the opportunity to enhance their professional skills through mentoring.

This is a paid 3-month summer position with the preference to start during the spring school year and the potential to continue into the fall.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an ABET accredited engineering program with a degree in mechanical or chemical engineering

  • A sophomore or above as of January 2022, including graduate students

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Ability to communicate effectively; both written and verbally

  • Must be self- motivated, have good mechanical aptitude, and ability to work well with others

  • Able to work part-time (15-20 hours per week) during the spring 2022 school year and 40 hours per week in the summer, with the possibility to extend the internship into the fall 2022 school year.

  • Preferred

  • Course work in power generation or project management and an interest in the power industry desirable

  • Able to commit to the internship for 12 months or longer.
