Job Summary


The Inventory Cost Accountant is responsible for maintaining the accuracy of all Northside Elevator's inventory through review and analysis of the inventory movements and variances, improving controls over the inventory processes and analyzing standard costs. Display of professional communication is essential to this role. This position requires strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues. The Inventory Cost Accountant position is an integral part of the business and needs to portray the professional image of Northside Elevator and is responsible for compliance with all company policies, local, state, and federal policies, laws, and regulations.


Key Responsibilities

Inventory Control

  • Analyze all inventory, develop inventory analytics, and analyze cost files
  • Strong understanding of the multitude of products sold including use and value
  • Investigate and correct discrepancies in reported quantities
  • Analyze and make recommendations with current inventory on hand
  • Perform month end inventory valuation
  • In-depth understanding of the relationship between the physical side of inventory and accounting side
  • Become an expert regarding the costs associated with producing and storing inventory
  • Accurately intake and record all company inventory

Accounting

  • Performing mark-to-market accounting on grain and hedging
  • Process various accounting transactions, prepare payments and complete daily reports
  • Perform month end process and procedures timely and accurately
  • Work closely with the CFO in preparing the necessary information for the monthly financials

Grain

  • Responsible for all grain transactions, which includes, but is not limited to, inbound and outbound grain
  • Process and record grain purchase and sale transactions
  • Keep accurate records and produce reports as required for the annual audit
  • Balancing of the daily position report
  • Manage grain transfers from customers or between customers
  • Provide customers with market trends and current grain quotes

Analytical

  • Understand current and future grain pricing and market outlooks
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures relating to grain and inventory processes
  • Ability to quickly adapt to the various software used
  • Provide analytical insight relating to the grain and inventory business functions
  • Develop and recommend improvements on the grain and inventory processes to promote accuracy, efficiency, and cost savings
  • Develop inventory analysis reports and analyze variances

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • High level attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of the organization and with external customers, written and verbally
  • Demonstrate initiative, accountability, flexibility, good organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
  • Proficiency in using the Microsoft Office suite
