Position Summary
To cultivate a spirit of successful financial support for the current and future well-being of Nativity of Our Lord Parish and School community.
Overview
The Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church and School in the Mac Groveland Highland Park neighborhood of Saint Paul is seeking a faith-filled, experienced, results-oriented development leader to establish and lead a comprehensive development program to support the Parish and School community.
The Nativity of Our Lord Church and School is blessed with an engaged community of parishioners and school families who support its mission to "help each person answer the call of Jesus Christ to serve as his disciple by nurturing a rich sacramental and spiritual life, supporting strong Catholic education and faith formation including fellowship and community and providing abundant opportunities to participate in the parish's long tradition of Christian witness."
Central to the success of the development program is the belief and fostering of a culture where both the church and school are viewed as One Nativity with equal opportunities for engagement and support across the church and school ministries.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Development is responsible for the leadership, planning, implementation, outreach and evaluation of a comprehensive development strategy for the Nativity community. As part of the One Nativity leadership team, reporting directly to the Pastor, this individual is responsible for initiating and creating a comprehensive development program, helping to set the vision for fundraising across the Nativity community, cultivating and soliciting major gifts and stewarding major donors and creating a culture of philanthropy and stewardship internally and externally.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Leadership
? Collaborates with One Nativity leadership, provides leadership, planning, organization, execution and assessment of fundraising efforts across the Nativity community, including the establishment of goals and related reports.
? Collaborates with leadership for all aspects of the development program with an emphasis on further developing a comprehensive fundraising and major gifts program to support all aspects of the Nativity community.
? Works closely with designated parish/school staff and volunteer leaders including the Parish Council, School Board, Finance Council and other key advisory groups to determine appropriate fund raising needs and priorities.
? Identifies partners across Nativity for collaboration.
? Attends Parish, School and community events to establish and build relationships with key parishioners (i.e., families, parents, grandparents, alumni, community leaders). Such events include Scouts Pancake Breakfast, Nativity County Fair, Tree Lot, Super Saturday, Graduation, Fish Fry, etc.)
? Coordinates and leads in the cultivation and solicitation of prospective donors.
? Develops concepts and oversees the development of case statements, proposals, promotional brochures, and written material in support of specific fund raising activities.
? Provides budget planning and oversight for the program.
? Visibly present at least one weekend per month for liturgies, preferably Donut Sunday.
? Assists special event volunteer teams (and volunteers) such as Nativity County Fair, Men's Club, NCCW, and other parish and school partnerships as needed.
Fundraising Responsibilities
? Provides leadership in the planning and implementation of successful fundraising efforts. Activities include but are not limited to providing motivation, accountability, and structure for engagement in ambitious, intentional major gift fundraising; engagement of volunteers in peer solicitations and cultivation activities; tracking of fundraising progress; providing leadership with strategic advice on strategies and next steps on top prospects, etc.
? Develops and manages a portfolio of major gifting prospects and ensures timely steps are taken toward solicitation, closure, and stewardship.
? Develops a framework within a year for 15 solicitations per year at $25k or more with an annual production goal of $1 million, of which three of those gifts are $100k or greater.
Department Management
? Develops an annual plan of work, including specific fund raising, prospect development and programmatic goals.
? Manages staff responsible for stewardship, major gifts development, advancement services and related activities. Provides supervision and work direction including recruitment, retention, performance management, and coaching of staff.
? Plans, creates and manages the development budget, following the guidelines, policies and procedures.
Organizational
? Serves as a member of the One Nativity leadership team.
? Completes and files timely reports. Maintains accurate and relevant records within the Hub database.
? Participates in special projects as assigned. Handles other duties and assignments as required.

? It is preferred that this employee be a Catholic.

Qualifications
? Bachelor's degree required.
? Minimum of five years fundraising or closely related Development experience is preferred.
? Strong verbal and written communication skills.
? Excellent organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills including a high level of attention to detail.
? Ability to effectively partner and collaborate with a diverse group of Church, academic and volunteer leaders.
? Computer proficiency required.
? VIRTUS completed and up to date within the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis.
