Position Information

Position description : The Department of Plant Pathology at North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND has an immediate opening for an exceptional post-doctoral researcher to conduct research on diseases of economic importance to the potato industry. A successful candidate will i) utilize contemporary and traditional research and statistical tools to improve the understanding and management of common scab caused by bacteria in the genus Streptomyces ; ii) lead statistical analyses for research developed by the individual and the group; iii) publish research and present results; iv) support the PI in development of new and existing projects towards the goal of advancing research and disseminating results through reports, presentations and refereed journal publications. The incumbent is expected to work independently and in multidisciplinary research groups, and to supervise, train and guide graduate students, and laboratory staff. A successful candidate must demonstrate expertise in statistics as well as classical and modern areas of plant pathology. This is a full-time post-doctoral appointment renewable annually, contingent upon satisfactory performance and available funding. The candidate selected for the position must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time of appointment.

Minimum qualifications : The position requires a recent PhD in plant pathology; demonstrated advanced skills in experimental design, statistical analysis and visualization of results using high-end statistical packages; demonstrated expertise in modern and classical laboratory techniques in plant pathology; success in publishing research results. Additional requirements include; experience evaluating plant diseases in greenhouse and field research trials; experience managing laboratory and greenhouse research; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Preferred Qualifications : Supervisory experience; experience conducting laboratory, greenhouse and field research evaluating potato diseases. Experience conducting research with bacterial plant pathogens, soil microbiology/microbiome or plant-environment-bacteria interactions is a plus.
