Job Details
Position Description & Details:
The purpose of this position is to aide the undergraduate advising process for College of Business students, guiding students through university and major requirements toward graduation.
Responsibilities:
Academic Advising (85%)
- Participate in new student and transfer student orientation sessions
- Prepare students for fall/spring/summer registration
- Identify and use appropriate campus resources to advise students
- Monitor students' academic progress toward degrees
- Monitor and evaluate student progress toward admission into the professional program
- Participate in the College's recruiting and outreach initiatives
- Utilize technology (e.g. Navigate, Campus Connection, Schedule Planner, Degree Map, etc) to manage advising responsibilities
- Maintain frequent contact and timely communication with students
- Perform other duties, as assigned
Participate in and support University and College initiatives to enhance undergraduate student experiences and success (10%)
- Communicate effectively with faculty and administrators regarding curricular changes and student progress
- Work collaboratively with University partners (e.g. Career and Advising Center, TRIO, One Stop, Registration & Records, Disability Services, Professional Advisors, Admissions, Athletics, etc.) to foster student success
- Work with College faculty to promote program growth and participation across campus
Training and Development (5%)
- Maintain regular involvement with other professional and faculty advisors and related campus offices (e.g. Registration & Records, Student Success Programs, etc.) for policy/procedure and other pertinent updates.
- Participate in ongoing training for accurate information, and innovative and effective advising techniques
Work Schedule:
40 hrs/w + as needed, M-F 8 am to 5 pm or 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, holiday hours when appropriate, or as determined by supervisor
Advertised Salary:
- $41,000
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university - business or an area related to business, education, or student development
- Minimum of one year of experience working in student support
- Strong written, oral, communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Detail oriented
- Ability to work in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Counseling, Communication, Business, Education or related field
- Familiarity/experience in higher education
