Understanding the details of Medicare coverage is key to this position. The Medical Benefit Analyst is responsible for determining client requirements to develop benefit plans for custom plan quotes for all Group Retiree Products. Requires the ability to review large amounts of detailed benefit information, identify differences in what a commercial plan covers vs Medicare coverage, identify what we can and cannot offer, and ensure that sales has a detailed understanding of the new benefit plans vs their current commercial plans so they can provide a comprehensive explanation to the potential client.

Actively lead and document conversations with other teams to evaluate custom benefits for operational impact and compliance impact, securing formal approvals where needed. Products include Medicare Advantage, Medicare Coordinated plans, Medicare Part D Pharmacy benefits and various ancillary riders like Vision, Hearing, Chiro, etc. Functions included but not limited to:

We offer 4 to 8 weeks of paid training. The hours during training will be 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. Training will be conducted virtually from your home.

This position is full-time (40 hours/week) Monday to Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime or weekends.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Overall management and coordination of employer health plan benefits being offered for a custom plan quote. The Benefit Analyst is responsible for accurately capturing benefit intent as provided by the client or broker through document review of materials of current benefits such as an Evidence of coverage, Summary of Benefits, Schedule of Benefits, and client/broker created grids, request for proposals documents, and other forms of documentation provided by the client.
  • Learning and complying with United HealthCare Group Retiree standards, product rules and CMS regulations.
  • Benefit Analyst will document and maintain the customers benefit intent, partner with internal and external business partners to ensure employer health plan benefit are set up accurately and expeditiously.
  • Primary internal point of contact for all communication regarding benefit intent for potential clients.
  • Detail and capture customer intent by providing proactive solutions to non-standard requests and problems by interpreting and confirming the client request while aligning appropriate resources through a formal administrative approval process.
  • Ability to independently research and resolve complex issues related to benefits, claim process, and regulatory requirements
  • Following outlined process and procedures, ensure all benefit related documents are accurately updated where errors may have been discovered.
  • Mentor new and existing Benefit Analysts, including cross-training others in the department.
  • Actively participate in or lead cross-functional teams or projects.
  • Audit Sales documents for adherence to quality measures and reporting standards.
  • The ability to work several hours of overtime each week,
  • Back-up to other team members.
  • Actively participate in requirements and testing of departmental "tools" used to create custom plans.
  • Research and make post-sales changes, documenting root cause of the change.
  • Maintain inventory reports and meet departmental turn-around times.
  • May be assigned other duties and projects as required.
  • Facilitating and documenting meetings
  • Coordinate and lead all aspects of the benefit plan quoting process.
  • Use of WebEx, face-to-face and written correspondence, active listening, and engaging in effective questioning.
  • Oversee the creation of custom retiree benefit plans to be implemented on multiple platforms. Collaboration with other business partners to meet URS goals and enhance the sales experience through active and timely follow up.
  • Motivated team member who contributes to team building by taking ownership and by providing motivation, inspiration, and creative solutions to help achieve and maintain positive client and team relationships. Actively lead and participate in team huddles and volunteers to assist/mentor other team members as needed.
  • May review work performed by others and provides recommendations for improvement.
  • Assist Director with responsibilities when needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma / GED (or higher)
  • 5+ years of experience in the health insurance/healthcare industry
  • 3+ years of group/Individual Medicare benefits, including Part D experience
  • Ability to identify and explain Medicare vs non-Medicare coverage at a detailed level
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Word (work within templates), Microsoft Excel (sorting filter, data entry), and Microsoft Outlook (email and calendar)

Telecommuting Requirements:

  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher)
  • Salesforce experience
  • Medical claims experience

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $64,800 to $116,000. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $71,400 to $127,400.
