Job Information

The State and Local Tax Senior Analyst is responsible for tax compliance for the Company and will assist with planning initiatives with respect to all state and local taxes in the United States and Canada. The position will interface with multiple departments throughout the Company to ensure timely and accurate tax filings. The State and Local Tax Senior Analyst will also handle state and local tax audits.

Role & Responsibility

Tax Research & Special Projects
  • Conduct tax research related to business activities and identify tax risks.
  • Monitor legislative, administrative and judicial developments and ascertain how proposed and enacted changes will affect the Company.
  • Identify opportunities for state and local tax savings.
  • Recommend and implement changes to the Company’s procedures and guidelines to ensure compliance, enhance efficiency, and minimize tax expense.
  • Assist in the development of internal tax policies, procedures and manual(s).
  • Assist in determining nexus, identifying filing requirements, and registering by legal entity to ensure tax compliance in all state and local jurisdictions in the U.S.
  • Maintain and monitor tax calendar to ensure timely filing of state/local income tax and sales/use, property taxes.
  • Ensure SOX compliance through documentation and compliance.
  • Assist in software implementation of sales tax solution.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining existing tax rules, rates, and mapping.

Preparing Tax Returns and Handling Audits
  • Preparation of all state and local sales, use, and property tax returns and all Canadian GST, HST and PST tax returns.
  • Assist in preparation of state and local income and franchise tax returns.
  • Support sales and use tax audits and assist with the development and best practices for tax audits.
  • Prepare monthly sales/use tax journal entry, reconciliations and working papers to support the General Ledger tax account balances.
  • Respond to state and local tax notices and inquiries.


Job Requirement

  • Bachelor's Degree – Accounting.
  • CPA Preferred.
  • 5 to 7 years' state and local tax experience in a Corporate Tax or Public Accounting environment.
  • Experience with manufacturing industry preferred.
  • Proven multistate tax compliance experience.
  • Strong tax research skills.
  • Possess strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, consistently meeting deadlines with accurate and detailed results.
  • Proficient with CCH Research Tool.
  • CCH ProSystem or comparable income tax compliance preferred.
  • Oracle and SAP ERP system experience preferred.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong desire to create value within the role and responsibilities assigned.
  • Travel 10-20%.

•Education Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent

•Must be able to follow established methods and procedures and perform work accordingly. Must have the ability to work rapidly and under time pressure for extended periods of time in order to meet build requirements. Must possess the ability to read build sheets and blueprints.
•The ability to communicate with supervisors and fellow workers in both written and verbal forms at a level normally acquired through the completion of a high school diploma or GED is required.
•Job specific skills, techniques and safe work and equipment operating practices are learned through on-the-job and classroom training. General instructions are given on recurring duties, operations and assignments; detailed instructions are given on new duties, operations and assignments.
