Job Information

This position's activities are focused on strategic safety and incident-prevention initiatives to help support the day-to-day operations of the Wahpeton facility and maintain environmental compliance expectations.

This position will help to develop, coordinate, and administer Environmental, Safety, and Health programs.

Works with departments, including employees at all levels of the organization, to find and resolve safety and health issues, ergonomic concerns, and environmental exposure.

Role & Responsibility

 

Strategic Safety
  • Maintain permits to operate
  • Develop or maintain compliant safety programs (i.e. Hearing Conservation, Hazard Communication, Lockout Tagout, etc.) and all aspects associated with them such as hearing test, Safety Data Sheet management, personal protective equipment, etc.
  • Coordinate EHS Training:  Coordinate and conduct all annual safety and environmental training, including Powered Industrial Vehicles and Job Hazard Analysis. Support New Hire Orientation program,
  • Administration of the Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Compliance audits: Support all compliance audits and lead the audit process
  • Oversee Environmental, Health, and Safety Inspections (EHS) in the facility in conjunction with area supervisors and safety committee. 
  • Manage injury response: to include emergency medical response, workers compensation, maintaining OSHA 300 log and all associated reports. 
  • Assist with Return to Work Program.  Work with medical professionals to assess health risks and develop ways to manage health issues and concerns. Partner with Supervisors to support employee’s safe return to work. 
  • Organize industrial hygiene annual testing and provide individual results to employees tested

 

Incident Prevention
  • Work in conjunction with the facility's management to complete risk and safety assessments.
  • Manage Job Hazard Analysis Program
  • Manage Corrective Action Program
  • Complete Hazard Assessments
  • Work in conjunction with the facility's management to lead safety teams including accident investigation
  • Lead and coordinate Safety Committee

 

Compliance
  • Manage industrial hygiene: Investigate the adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, and other conditions that could affect employee health, comfort or performance.
  • Ergonomics: Manage corrective actions.  Provide or seek out ergonomic recommendations.  Pursue and assist with cell updates and equipment improvements.
  • Aid in emergency responses

Job Requirement

  • Bachelor's degree - Environmental Science, Safety Engineer, or other job-related field required. An emphasis on Environmental Health and Safety is preferred.  An Associate's degree plus equivalent experience allowed or greater than 5 years in a similar position
  • OSHA Related Certificates, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP) a plus
  • Knowledge of applicable safety laws and standards (i.e. - OSHA, EPA, NFPA, NEC, ANSI, etc.)
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong communication skills (active listening, oral comprehension, written comprehension, ability to communicate information and ideas verbally)
  • PC skills, Excel, Oracle, PowerPoint
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Values integrity, teamwork, and attention to detail
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience
  • Less than 10% of travel

What skills, education, and experiences does your ideal candidate(s) have?

•Education Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
•These are entry level opportunities
•Must be able to follow established methods and procedures and perform work accordingly. Must have the ability to work rapidly and under time pressure for extended periods of time in order to meet build requirements. Must possess the ability to read build sheets and blueprints.
•The ability to communicate with supervisors and fellow workers in both written and verbal forms at a level normally acquired through the completion of a high school diploma or GED is required.
•Job specific skills, techniques and safe work and equipment operating practices are learned through on-the-job and classroom training. General instructions are given on recurring duties, operations and assignments; detailed instructions are given on new duties, operations and assignments.
