Position Information

This is a part-time, non-benefited position.

The NDSU Dickinson Research Extension Center (DREC) is seeking a temporary, summer agronomy research and outreach intern to provide support for the agronomy program in conducting research on crop varieties and agronomy practices for crop production systems in southwest North Dakota primarily focusing on working with soil amendments in acidic soils. Ideally, applicants will be available to start on May 1 and work through October 31. Research will be conducted primarily on small grains with some work with pulse crops, cover crops and oilseeds. Responsibilities will include assisting in all activities required for the successful execution of field-based agronomy demonstrations and trials. These responsibilities will include packaging of seed, field site preparation, planting, herbicide and fungicide application, note taking, data entry, harvesting, cleaning seed and other duties required to meet project goals. Many duties will require working in an outdoor environment with varying environmental conditions and will occasionally require lifting of bags or containers of seed, fertilizer, chemicals, etc. Duties will require occasional travel to off station research locations. The research assistant must be able to carry out these and other duties as assigned with general and minimal guidance from the Extension Cropping Systems Specialist, Center Director and Agronomy Research Specialist. The regular work schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4:30pm and this employee will be required to check in/out on the HRMS employee self-service timeclock portal.

This position is based in Dickinson, ND. Summer housing is available if needed.

Pay Rate:
  • $15.00 per hr+ depending upon experience

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Age 18+
  • Possess a valid Driver's License
  • Demonstrated computer skills and ability to work with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Working toward a degree in crop science, agronomy, soils or related field
  • Knowledge of ND geography
  • Hold or be able to obtain a North Dakota Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License
