Position Information

This is a part-time, non-benefited position.

Description, Duties & Responsibilities:

Summer technicians to collect range and grassland data that is oriented to ecological studies with emphasis in herbage production and plant community composition. Responsibilities are to assist in the collection of field data (vegetation). Field work takes up about 85% of the position responsibilities, with office and laboratory work comprising the rest of the time. Work is located on the US Forest Service Fort Pierre National Grasslands in central South Dakota. Office work is mainly data entry.

Requirements & Competencies:

Undergraduates in range, soils, wildlife, or other natural resource fields. Students should be familiar with computer spreadsheets and some knowledge of GIS. Students must be capable of hiking. Must be able to lift/pack up to 25 lb and be able to squat/kneel for extended periods of time for sample collection. Must have valid driver's license.

Work Location:

Housing and utilities are provided near Fort Pierre, SD at no charge. Transportation to and from the field will be provided.

Hours & Schedule:

$14.00 - 16.00/hr, depending on experience and knowledge. Workweek is typically 40-50 hours. Overtime is possible..
