Position Description & Details:

The Department of Health, Nutrition, and Exercise Sciences (HNES) at North Dakota State University (NDSU) invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Practice (non-tenure track) position in the area of Physical Education and/or Health Education to begin either the Fall of 2022 or Spring of 2023. This position will consist of 70 percent teaching, 10 percent advising, 10 percent research, and 10 percent service. Responsibilities will include supporting NDSU's land-grant mission of teaching, research, and service.

NDSU's PE/HE programs include a stand-alone undergraduate physical education program (with both a K-12 licensing option and a coaching and physical activity leadership option), stand-alone health education major (5th-12th licensing), as well as an online master's program (Leadership in Physical Education and Sport [LPES]). Both teacher preparation programs are accredited by CAEP and approximately 95% of teacher candidates double-major in both content areas. The undergraduate programs emphasize experiential learning and best practices, incorporate a variety of technology tools and applications, and provide diverse and unique field experiences. The LPES master's program currently serves 40 practitioners from across the United States and other countries with plans to increase enrollment capacity. The successful candidate will be able to teach courses in LPES and at least one or more of the undergraduate programs; participate in academic advising of both undergraduate and graduate students; engage in research, creative and/or scholarly activities; be active in professional organizations; provide service to the department, college, university, and community; work effectively with colleagues across disciplines and/or community organizations; and contribute to department governance while fostering a collaborative community across the HNES department. The candidate may choose to start the position either during the Fall 2022 semester or Spring 2023 semester.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. PhD or EdD in Physical Education, Health Education, or closely related field from an accredited institution (ABD will be considered providing degree completion occurs by August 15, 2022 for a Fall 2022 start or by December 31, 2022 for a Spring 2023 start)

2. Experience teaching PETE/HETE courses

3. Evidence of potential to engage in scholarly activities

4. Effective oral and written communications skills

Preferred Qualifications:

1. PK-12 teaching experience

2. Online teaching experience or online learning experiences as a student

3. Academic advising experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels

4. Peer-reviewed publications

5. Membership and involvement in professional organizations

The HNES department is housed within the College of Human Sciences and Education and includes five undergraduate programs, six graduate programs, and 30 faculty and staff members.
