Position Description & Details:

The Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute invites applications for post doc researcher. The UGPTI offers a great environment for professional growth and inspiration in our interdisciplinary research and outreach program. The candidate will work closely with partner agencies and community stakeholders on rural traffic safety analyses related to human factors in traffic injury prevention. The individual will have the opportunity to utilize his/her strengths in contributing to a growing research program, data synthesis and knowledge building. Exceptional interpersonal, communication and organizational skills are essential. This position is full-time benefited. This is a two-year temporary position which may be extended to three years' based on performance and funding availability.

Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Conduct research projects related to traffic safety,
  • Manage databases and ensure data quality; and
  • Provide quarterly reports of work progress and deliverables.

  • Advertised Salary: $50,000 +DOE

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Ph.D. in a transportation or a related field.
    • Demonstrated research experience with SAS.
    • Traffic safety database management and scripting experience, such as with FARS.
    • Working knowledge and/or educational background with GIS software.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Experience in defining and conducting research projects.
    • Willingness to work with a team in managing multiple research tasks.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • A demonstrated knowledge of traffic safety and rural transportation.
    • Abilities to work in a team and to lead research projects.
    • Work/research experience with methods in machine learning and/or forecasting.
    • Grant proposal and research writing experience.

    Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute

    The Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute (UGPTI) is a research, education, and outreach center at North Dakota State University which is guided, in part, by an advisory council composed of representatives of various organizations, industries, and agencies affecting or affected by transportation.
