Duties Include:

  • Providing leadership and education in support of student parents completing their education, University faculty members, and Fargo-Moorhead Community Members. This includes the day-to-day operations of an Early Care and Education Classroom.
  • Training and supervision of the student staff and management of the services they provide. This position provides guidance for both student staff and parents in community development, crisis management, response to emergency situations and conflict resolution.
  • Developing and implementing a curriculum based on evaluation and assessment on two levels; one for the children attending the program and one for the MSUM student staff and practicum students.
  • Supporting the growth and early childhood development of children of university students, faculty, staff, and community members within the framework of a loving, accepting, and respectful child care facility​.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following: Early Childhood Education; Child Development; Child and Family Studies; or other program of similar focus and content
  • Professional Licensure/Certification: Licensed by the Minnesota Department of Education with an Early childhood (Pre-K) teaching license or elementary teaching license
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR
  • At least 1 year of experience teaching in early childhood classroom
  • Knowledge of child development and best practices in early childhood care
  • Skills to plan and implement a curriculum that meets the various developmental needs of the children
  • Ability to supervise staff assistants who have various levels of child care experience
  • Ability to communicate with parents on a daily basis regarding their child’s development.
  • Ability to administer assessment tools which record children’s skills in the areas of language, physical, social, and emotional development
  • Ability to lift and carry young children up to 45lbs.
  • Ability to move quickly to intervene in a situation where child’s safety may be in jeopardy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with NAEYC’s accreditation standards
  • Experience working with MN Department of Human Services (DHS) licensing rules and regulations for childcare centers (Rule 3)
  • Experience working with Child and Adult Food Care Program (CAFCP)
  • Experience using Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold assessment
  • More than one year of experience in an early childhood classroom setting
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
