Description

The purpose of this position is to serve as lab manager and assist in research laboratory to study regulation & structure of dopamine transporters.  A multidisciplinary strategy involving multiple biochemical and molecular techniques will be used for these studies.  Further description of our work can be found at www.med.und.nodak.edu/biochem/vaughan.html.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in performance of experimental procedures
    • Perform SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and autoradiography
    • Perform immunoprecipitation and immunoblotting procedures
    • Perform standard molecular biology procedures (PCR, site-directed mutagenesis)
    • Perform radioligand binding, radioligand transport, palmitoylation, and phosphorylation assays
    • Use standard statistical programs to analyze data and assemble figures
  • Laboratory maintenance
    • Make buffers and solutions
    • Order supplies and reagents
    • Perform radioisotope inventory and monitoring for Vaughan Lab and shared Radiation Lab W259
    • Perform cell culture
    • Maintain accurate and timely records of experimental protocols
    • Maintain accurate and timely records of laboratory safety and compliance procedures
    • Train or assist other lab members

Required Competencies

  • Excellent math skills
  • Ability to understand and follow directions and work with others in the laboratory
  • Ability to create and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to use hands dexterously for experiments

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Biology or related field
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-3+ years' experience in Biochemical, Molecular, and Cell Culture techniques
  • Experience with radioisotopes and animal handling
  • Experience as lab manager
  • Experience with Excel and Prism

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

Minimum starting salary of $44,000+ annual; dependent on experience and qualifications

Exempt; Benefited; Full-Time

Work Schedule

40 Hours Per Week
