The Medical Director Manager, Radiation Oncology works with the Sr Medical Director and other stakeholders to achieve performance goals and productivity for the Radiation Oncology product, consistent with the best interests of our company, our members, the regulatory and contractual requirements of our clients, relevant state/Federal governments, and accreditation programs. The MD Manager will report to and receive coaching/guidance from the Sr. Medical Director and help implement next - generation comprehensive solutions which will successfully meet clinical, quality, and financial performance objectives. This position will collaborate closely with the Radiation Oncology stakeholders in order to deliver growing value to our members and clients.

Primary Responsibilities:

Operational excellence, improvement in service delivery through day-to-day management of the Radiation Oncology Medical Director team
Workforce management, recruiting and onboarding
Provide ongoing audits with appropriate feedback, coaching and monitoring of quality improvement
Provide clinical guidance in the creation, implementation, and refinement of a radiation oncology utilization management solutions
Serve as a subject matter expert in evidence-based radiation oncology guidelines and help ensure all clinically relevant policies and processes are informed by the best available evidence
Enhance clinical expertise of the radiation oncology team through education sessions with nursing teams, and serving as a thought leader and point of contact for relevant medical societies & stakeholders
Evaluate clinical and other data (e.g., quality metrics, claims & health record data, utilization data) to identify opportunities for improvement of clinical care and processes
Collaborate with operational and business partners on enterprise-wide research, clinical and quality initiatives to enhance Optum impact in the Radiation oncology field
Provide regular assessment on productivity (quantity and quality), training/coaching (and performance improvement when needed) to Radiation Oncology Medical Director team members regarding value delivery and career growth
Establish a culture of ownership and accountability within the team to each other and our colleagues for value delivery and collaboration
Identify opportunities for team members to participate in roles beyond UM as needed, such as support of quality initiatives, development of new/better tools, collaboration across Optum/UHC on priority projects, clinical guidance on new initiatives, and the like

Required Qualifications:

Current, unrestricted MD license
Board Certified in Radiation Oncology
5+ years of post-residency experience in clinical medical practice/patient care as a Radiation Oncologist
Possess leadership skills in working with other physicians and non-physicians, knowledge of the overall medical community and the local/regional managed care environments
Experience with integration of clinical and financial data, development of utilization and performance reporting tools, and communication of performance data to physicians and other health care providers
Specific familiarity with managed care accreditation activities and NCQA, URAC, CMS, state and other federal regulations
MS Office proficiency (MS Word, Excel, and Power Point)

Preferred Qualifications:

2+ years of experience in a managed care environment; to include quality improvement, utilization management and case management experience
Experience in large size health care organizations that are geographically widely distributed and heavily virtual ("remote workers")

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only : The salary range for Colorado/Connecticut/Nevada residents is $113,500 to $218,100. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
