Overview
Part time, benefited position working 48 hours per two week pay period. Days of work are Monday - Friday with hours of 7:30 am - 4:00 pm. No weekends or holidays.
Under the supervision and direction of the Surgical Services Manager the Pre-Admit Nurse (PAN) will assess, plan, implement and evaluate the pre-admission needs of all surgical service patients. The PAN is responsible for preoperative interviews, implementing pre-operative teaching, screening and chart documentation/preparation consistent with JRMC Nursing Standards.

Qualifications
Work requires a professional level of knowledge acquired by completing an accredited RN nursing education program. Must hold RN licensure from the ND State Board of Nursing for the current year.
Prefer minimum of nine months recent
perioperative experience or complete
Approved college perioperative program. Nurses who do not meet this minimum requirement must successfully complete a surgical competency-based orientation program.

Responsibilities
ASSESSMENT
- Completes assessment of patient's condition and health history in accordance with patient's age and unique needs.
- Makes pre-operative calls to all patients and completes the pre-operative checklist
- Prepares chart on patients pre-admitted either by telephone or in person, obtaining health history including but not limited to review of systems, allergies, medications. Communicates with Anesthesia, surgeon and/or PCP any concerns.
- Completes teaching and documentation and records appropriately.
PLANNING
- Coordinates plan of care including identification of expected outcomes and nursing interventions in accordance with patient's age.
- Documentation is completed in Epic
- Reviews charts for completeness before taking to Surgery Center
- Communicates with Anesthesia and/or physician any concerns
IMPLEMENTATION
- Understands the guidelines, protocols, and policies of JRMC for and implements them accordingly
- Gathers required data such as labs, EKG's, and H&P's for patients chart
- Completes record, enters orders as needed and completes chart
- Documents teaching given to patient and/or family prior to surgery and/or procedures
- Maintains a record of reports received and pre-op calls completed
- Applies critical thinking in carrying out nursing actions and orders
- Follows up with abnormal lab results by calling appropriate physician and carrying through any orders received
- Implements the teaching plan/discharge plan, carrying out teaching activities as appropriate
- Maintains a high quality of communication with doctor's offices.
EVALUATION
- Evaluates patients understanding of instructions and pre-operative information.
- Initiates communication with the Charge Nurse or Surgical Services Manager in areas that require feedback, follow-up or need to be addressed.
- Participates and accepts responsibility assigned in department Performance Improvement program
