The Mental Health Advocate provides mental health navigation services to Residents at Downtown View Apartments. In addition to collaborating with the onsite staff, they will provide crisis intervention, skill-building, and mental health-focused case management intervention stabilization services. The Mental Health Advocate will work closely with other YouthLink staff and Onsite Partners to coordinate services to ensure a holistic approach to serving and supporting youth. This person will work with youth to achieve set goals to maintain stability as well as sustained self-improvement. The Advocate will not provide Mental Health Counseling or Therapy but will have a background in the MH field. They may also bill for Housing Stabilization Services rendered in the program. This person will co-case support residents along with the housing staff to navigate community mental health-related services. They will also work in coordination with Youth Opportunity Center (YOC) Partners and onsite Chemical Dependency Specialist to provide wraparound support services to residents residing in the housing programJob Type: Full-time

  • Work Schedule: Typically, Monday - Friday, must have flexibility to work in the day, evening and occasional weekends.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities and or Competencies required to successfully perform the work:

  • Able to provide non-judgmental services, including demonstrating an acceptance of a variety of lifestyles, behaviors, and cultural and spiritual practices.
  • Strong knowledge in principle-based approach, including harm-reduction, trauma-informed, strengths-based, and other areas reflected in YouthLink's Guiding Principles.
  • Knowledge of educational and vocational pathways for youth.
  • Ability to make sound decisions independently in crisis situations.
  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Comfortable with and effectively able to work independently.
  • A high degree of professionalism and ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
  • Able to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working with communities of color.
  • Mission-driven and able to incorporate agency philosophy into service delivery.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office applications and ability to utilize handheld application and systems.
  • Knowledge of local housing regulations and the needs of youth experiencing homelessness.
  • Experience with case management documentation.

Required Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification required for entry into position:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Behavioral Health, Family Studies. Human Services, Public Health, or a closely related field.
  • Required (3+) three years or more experience administering mental health support services while working in either permanent supportive housing programs, drop-ins, shelters, intensive residential treatment programs, drug treatment programs, public schools, or other youth-serving agencies of the like.
  • License Social Worker (LSW) certification Preferred
  • Targeted Case Manager (TCM) credentials/certification Preferred
