Under the supervision and direction of the Director of Alumni and Community Relations, the Assistant Director has major responsibilities to coordinate events for the school both on- and off-campus (e.g., Homecoming events, holiday parties, alumni gatherings); serve as a direct liaison to the School’s Director of Development, based at the UND Alumni Association & Foundation, on alumni communications, appeals, fundraising campaigns, and events; research, write, and edit a wide variety of primarily electronic communications materials, including magazine articles, advertisements, and electronic items; manage the School’s several social media accounts, developing and publishing posts in concert with the School’s many departments.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • SMHS Social Media: Managing/monitoring the School’s many social media accounts
  • Advertisements: Managing the design/delivery of SMHS advertisements to media outlets (e.g., newspapers, magazines)
  • Miscellaneous: Write/edit brochures, speeches, schoolwide emails, reports, talking points, SMHS website content
  • Events: Help coordinate/promote/report various public/alumni events. Assists with set-up, takedown of events, as necessary
  • Tours: Assist with SMHS building tours
  • Travel: Travel for meetings, events when appropriate notice is given, as necessary
  • Appeals: Work with director of development/AAF on paper and email appeals to alumni for gifts (annual or incidental)
  • Alumni products: Work with AAF on paper/electronic materials/campaigns managed by AAF involving SMHS alumni

Required Competencies

  • Specialized subject knowledge (cost accounting, MACRO economics, etc.) APA style, Associated Press style
  • Effective oral and interpersonal/people skills
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, attention to detail in grammar and punctuation 
  • Outstanding and effective written and electronic communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability as an engaging and concise writer
  • “Media-savvy” and comfortable in working with a wide variety of state-of-the-art communication products.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a major field of study or degree emphasis in Marketing, Communications, English, or the equivalent
  • Three or more years of increasingly progressive responsibility in the field of public or alumni relations, communications, and/or marketing, preferably in a medical school or university setting
  • Valid driver's license
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced experience with standard communications software, including Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint) and some Adobe products (Acrobat, Photoshop)

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$60,000 / year, benefited, full-time, exempt

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm, possible nights and/or weekends for events
