Plan, implement and evaluate events within the Recreation Department. Events/Programs include but are not limited to activities at various facilities. Events also include collaboration with non-park district organizations. Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises seasonal staff, as well as volunteer groups. Reports directly to the Events Manager within the Recreation Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Evaluation of this position is based primarily on performance of the following essential functions, which include, but are not limited to:

Assist Events Manager on planning new and current events within the Recreation Department for the Fargo Park District. Events involve partnerships with non-park district organizations. Planning all aspects of each program including entertainment needs, site needs, interactive activities, staffing, committee involvement, and non-park district partnerships. Maintains an awareness and responsibility to the budget of each program, including the facilitation of fundraising, grant writing and sponsorships. Ensuring creative, organized, well-managed programs that meet public interest effectively and cost efficiently. Maintaining reasonable awareness of the public interest, and impact the event has on the desired audience.
Implement and evaluate events and sports tournaments within the Recreation Department. Participate on site in the preparation, execution and clean-up of each event. Monitor park grounds and facilities. Alert appropriate park district staff of needed repairs. Ensure that the events and facilities operate within the policies set by the Fargo Park District. Ensure adequate communication and scheduling for site and events. Complete event clean up and final reports in a timely manner.
Keep the Event Manager updated on policy issues affecting the events and facility operations. Meet with the Events Manager regularly to provide advice on updates and issues with respect to resource allocation, event programming and development.
Direct the hiring, training and supervising staff and/or volunteers associated with each Event. Ensuring programs and events are properly staffed. Ensure hiring of staff for events/programs that is consistent with the policies and procedures of the Park District. Ensure that staff are trained on the proper safety regulations set forth by the Park District. Ensure all events are staffed and scheduled correctly in the most cost-efficient manner.
Act as resource person for Event participants and public. Develop productive working relationships with event vendors, external event planners and park and city departments. Provide professional advice in areas events and programming. Ensure all questions and concerns from public and participants are treated in a professional and courteous manner. Ensuring conflict with the public is handled in a professional and timely manner.

Experience and Skills:
REQUIREMENTS:

Strong knowledge of and demonstrated experience in event planning and production.
A reliable professional with a mature attitude and the ability to lead others and maintain a positive working relationship with peers, management, support resources, and the public.
Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely, and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
Strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize, problem solve, manage multiple events and meet deadlines, collaborate, and to analyze diverse facts and develop clear and concise reports and recommendations.
Considerable ability to work effectively under pressure and to competently handle a number of different tasks concurrently.
Ability to self-direct activities and work independently to meet goals and objectives.
Ability to think outside the box when appropriate, but also to standardize communication and production processes.

Proficiency on a Windows-based computer with standard office software including the Microsoft Office suite (specifically Excel and Outlook), Canva, and Google Docs.

Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

A bachelor’s degree in hospitality, event management or related field.
Three to five years’ supervisory experience in event planning and/or facility management.
Possess exceptional organizational abilities, interpersonal skills, multi-tasking skills, and time management.

CREDENTIALS/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

Must possess a valid driver’s license.
