Position Description & Details:

Provide administrative support to the human resource function as needed; provide support to benefits administration to assist with employee satisfaction and retention; process faculty/staff tuition waivers and employee spouse/dependent/partner waivers; assist with cost transfer billings; assist with coordination/logistics of office and University events; provide customer service and departmental support to ensure customer needs are being met in an efficient and timely manner.

Responsibilities:

HR & Payroll Services Office Administrative Support
  • Greet visitors, answer questions and/or direct to appropriate individual
  • Provide back-up by answering department telephone, relay information or transfer calls to appropriate individuals
  • Assist customers by providing forms; answering basic payroll and benefit questions; referring employees to appropriate vendors and scheduling appointments
  • Back-up front desk responsibilities including I-9 and new hire process
  • Assist with the performance management process including annual and probationary reviews and reporting functions

Benefits Support
  • Update/draft/create benefit forms and guides
  • Assist and back-up benefits specialist by monitoring NPERS and entering changes and updates
  • Assist with open enrollment for dental/health/vision/flex/life insurance
  • Assist in NDSU retirement processing including updating NDPERS and TIAA
  • Assist with benefits trainings and new hire benefits sessions

Records Retention Program
  • Act as department Unit Record Coordinator for the records retention program
  • Attend Unit Record Coordinator meetings
  • Monitor records retention schedule and purge records when appropriate using proper disposal method
  • Communicate retention schedule to other staff members to ensure that documents can be prepared for destruction
  • Update staff regarding changes in record retention/management program
  • Provide administrative support to staff as needed

Tuition Waivers
  • Determine eligibility and give approval of faculty/staff tuition waivers and employee spouse/dependent/partner waivers
  • Contact employee(s) with questions/concerns regarding waivers
  • Log tuition waiver information into tracking system
  • Sort and electronically distribute workflow for NDSU Customer Account Services and Student Financial Services
  • Send tuition waivers to appropriate universities within the University System when employees are taking classes at other institutions

Event Coordination & Logistics
  • Assist with the Quarter Century Club banquet
  • Assist with the Employee Recognition Social
  • Assist with meetings and trainings as needed
  • Special projects as needed


Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, normal business hours

Advertised Salary: $38,000+, commensurate with experience

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in human resources or related field and/or equivalent experience
  • At least two (2) years related experience is required
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Customer service oriented
  • Detail oriented

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field
