POSITION SUMMARY:

Installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, boilers, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems by performing the following duties. Responsible for the operation of the boiler. Required to work towards First Class boilers license. Embrace the Balchem safety philosophy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assure that work assignments are carried out in accordance with all safety programs procedures, standards and policies and are completed safely, accurately and by the deadlines
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and problem-solve Programmable Logic Control (PLC), Computers, Controls, Electrical/Electronics (3 phase, 220, 440), Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Plumbing, HVAC, and general building maintenance to determine necessary repairs
  • Maintain and monitor the high-pressure boiler for safe and efficient operation of manufacturing process
  • Chemically treat and check safety valves/controls on the high-pressure boiler
  • Demonstrate comprehension of boiler operation via testing
  • Ensures that equipment repairs remain functional and are not a contributor to continued downtime
  • Understand and comply with company policies and city, state, and federal requirements to safely maintain facility grounds
  • Fabricate, hang and fit stainless steel pipes to 3 A standards, mig, tig, and purge
  • Document activities in an organized and accurate manner for effective communication with teammates and other employee owners. (Including Work Orders, PM records, Order Requisitions, Inventory Lists, Parts Requisitions, etc.)
  • Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine
  • Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts in a timely and professional manner
  • Complete painting, grouting, grounds maintenance, water treatment, carpentry, plumbing, pipe fitting/fabrication, and electrical work by the deadlines indicated
  • Read schematics and diagrams to accurately troubleshoot electrical, wiring, and building issues, using a diagram/schematic, perform the steps in effective troubleshooting
  • Repairs and maintains physical structure of establishment
  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment in the facility by visually inspecting, testing machinery and equipment to ensure proper function and promote efficiency to ensure breakdowns due to maintenance issues are controlled
  • Rebuild and maintain a wide range of equipment, including, but not limited to forklift, motors, pumps, piping, ammonia system & process equipment, and small engines
  • Perform successful maintenance on various pieces of equipment
  • Evaluates needed repairs and compare costs with outsourcing needed services to determine most cost-effective method
  • Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment
  • Ensure welds are safe, strong, accurate, and compliant with sanitary and USDA codes
  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill, and milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools
  • Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts
  • Must be involved in the safety program in the plant

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school education, in addition to strong math, verbal, and oral communication skills, are required
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
  • Must be able to work independently to organize tasks and manage the workload
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations
  • Position requires sufficient time to accomplish the tasks leading to long days, weekend, and holiday work schedules
  • When plant production is operational on weekends and holidays, the maintenance technician is expected to work his/her appropriate shift
  • Ability to manage change, interruptions, and the unpredictable nature of this business is paramount to being successful in this position
  • Second-Class Boiler License

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Job responsibilities require the candidate do an extensive amount of walking while on the job
  • Continuous physical activity through the work day such as climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, hearing, talking, repetitive motion and moving objects weighing up to 62 lbs.; routine climbing of stairs
  • The plant will be staffed on off-shifts and weekend/holiday hours may be required due to the variable nature of our business
  • Operates various equipment such as computers, drafting equipment and instruments involving scientific meters and measuring devices
  • Must be able to distinguish colors
  • Regularly performs tasks in a plant environment, periodically with temperatures and noise above ambient level, proximity to high speed moving mechanical parts, and exposure to chemicals that are constantly monitored
  • Will be required to wear appropriate safety equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, respirators, gloves and other protective equipment as required
  • May be required at times to work in confined spaces
  • Exposure to wet, slippery floors from ingredients and water solutions and live steam and steam heated water
